it doesn't make much sense assigning an on/aff control to variable analog stick.
Why not? Any movement would still qualify as a button press...
edit: Movement and camera controls are both assigned to keys on the keyboard by default, which would be digital, not analog. And I can map those to the other analog stick just fine...

nin, how about getting one of Saitek's gamepads? They're relatively cheap (the P880 I use sells for around $12 here in Europe), have a good haptics to them and most important, they have the SST software which lets you assign keys to all gamepad functions. Sure, this turns analog sticks into digital ones, but for me it works like a charm and I can play even the more exotic stuff like MAME or C=64 emulator games which would otherwise rely on keyboard input only.

I think I caught it at gogamer (one of their sales) last year...it sure LOOKS fun! Maybe one day I'll get to play the goddamn thing! 
I'm using a Playstation 2 gamepad, run to a USB adapter. Works great with any other game...
I hate to be an ass, but no one should have this much trouble getting it to work. I could see if it didn't read all the buttons or something. Fine. Not supported. But I can assign certain features to certain buttons, but not others. WTF not?! What's the purpose of being able to reassign buttons, when it's only used where the devs felt like it?
I have 2 analog sticks on this pad. I use one for movement. And look! You can assign 4 mutant powers to quick keys. And I have this analog stick over here, unused! WHY NOT ASSIGN IT TO THOSE?! Only you can't! "Fuck you" the game says!

Jesus fucking christ...who was the dumbass sadomasochistic mother fucker who designed the menu system for X-Men Legends 2? I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to get the piece of shit working correcting with my game pad, and STILL cannot map certain attack functions to certain buttons, even though the game reads ALL of the buttons on the gamepad.
What a motherfucking pain in the ass...I'm so close to uninstalling this thing, and I haven't even started playing it yet. 20 minutes JUST TO CONFIG THE FUCKING GAMEPAD! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! What game play? I can't even get that far!
And devs wonder WHY we pc gamers hate half assed console ports?!
