China is responsible for North Korea after all. The Chinese propped them up for decades and still continues to do so.
China helps keep them contained more than anything. But because they don't say anything to the world about their problems with Korea doesn't mean they don't exist. N. Korea's pretty much sealed itself up and become the ultimate isolationship country. From what I've read China has a rather tough time policing that border for illegal immigrants and such. As much as some attempt and in some cases succeed in getting through the DMZ on the S. Korea border, NK's border with Chin is a lot broader.
Yet all the Chinese care about is Taiwan. They seem blind to anything else.
No, you can read with quite a bit of regularity their voicing of different concerns in the world. In the scope of things, Taiwan really doesn't amount to much.
I think we should blast the thing right off the launch pad (provided we're even able to do so with our much vaunted but never tested anti-missile systems) and dare China to make an issue of it.
Oh, it is an issue with China, I'm sure. As you said, Kim Jong-il isn't in the complete right frame of mind and it's naive to say his allies aren't aware of it. If N. Korea developed a missile that could hit the US, that constitutes any target in mainland China being open to attack as well.
As far as the PRC making an issue of it, there really isn'tm much they could say as far as preemptive strikes are concerned. Really, it wouldn't be costing them anything to stand back and watch the Americans take out a common nuisance.
