Ships Ahoy - BF2 Armored Fury

As noted on the Battlefield 2 Website, the Armored Fury booster pack for Battlefield 2 is now available for purchase via EA Downloader . Word is: "Battlefield 2 is proud to introduce its second booster pack, Armored Fury. The battle continues in a brand-new theater as the US forces are fighting on their own soil -- defend your territory against the MEC and Chinese forces, from the Alaskan pipeline to the prairies of the American Midwest. New attack jets and scout helicopters give air combat a whole new level of importance!"

You guys need to wait for Point of Existence 2 to come out. Now that mod will make BF2 worth playing again.

yah, thats the one i have my eye on. I played the hell out the original. unfortunately by the time they get it out BF3 will be ready.

but often I just cant be arsed to sit and stare at the BF2 load screens.

That's exactly why I stopped playing. I couldn't just hop on and play a couple of rounds, because it felt like I'd spend most of my time waiting for it to load.

Did they release "large"/64 player maps this time? Euro force was only 32 player maps which meant there were only 200 tickets on 64 player ranked servers which made rounds like 10 mins tops.

The EA Downloader is at it again. It won't let me login to the site to purchase the expansion ... even though my username and password are correct. It just tells me to keep re-entering my password, over and over again.

Fired off an email to EA ... but I guess I'll probably have to wait a few days before I get a response.

Doesn't really matter. Soon the mass exodus to 2142 will begin and EA's support for this game goes buh bye.

Don't you guys mean the mass exodus to Enemy Territory: Quake Wars? I think it's time id was given a shot at this sub-genre.

Someone asked about any good mods. One is called USI which is set in the first Gulf War and includes such things as A-10 Warthogs, SU-25 ground attack jets, changes to the tanks including zoom and two different types of rounds (one for infantry another for armor).

Its got potential but I think they released it a tad too early and there really isn't enough content that differs from the core game in any significant way. It's definitely a mod to keep your eye on though.

Joining servers only to have the map change mid load to one you don’t have, either being dumped back to the server browser or having some really slow auto-downloader pop up which is useless because it’s so slow by the time you’ve gotten half the map it’s already cycled to the next map, which you also don’t have. Searching endlessly through broken links for the right map pack for the server only to find out you don’t have the latest version of some map in the pack.

The other benefit to having ranked servers is the assurance that each one will be set to the same rules and won’t have any extra server tweaks that are only apparent once you’ve joined the server, rapid fire on all the weapons, the ability to jump over buildings, stupid stuff that some people think is “cool”

I don’t agree with all the rule changes EA has done to the game since it was released but it’s still a fun game to play. I’ll gladly pay a few bucks for the lack of aggravation, everyone else have fun with your mods.

I really like USI, hearing the A10 go by is amazing. Dropping the UAV seems to have been a good decision because it's much more important to spot enemies now. Rocket Launchers no longer give the tank warning before the hit, engineers get a SAM missle, A/C get shot down!

But the maps are too open and empty. So much space is basically empty or flat and it makes using vehicles harder because you stick out like a sore thumb against he map. And when a jet or helo is cruising around looking for prey, you will get killed real fast.

There's also been several tweaks to the base weapons and a nice addition for the engineers (man portable SAMs).

It needs a few extra city maps though as the mod only includes one right now but it's certainly a good city map.

I had a job interview for game tester at EA a month ago (got hired by the way.. start work in a couple weeks), and when they asked me "Name one thing you'd like to see improved in BF2", I suggested just what you suggested here. The interview dudes seemed to like the idea, but I don't think they were in control of such matters.

It's a good idea because it's basically free work and money for EA. Gamers create new maps, EA slaps 'em in, and gamers tell their buddies how the game is always fresh and cool. Buddies go out and buy BF2, and the cycle continues. I guess EA wants to keep the well dry so you go out and buy the expansions/boosters. But that seems odd since great mods are bound to come out eventually anyway..

agreed 100%. Global high scores matter to 0.01% of players. IF someone really wants to be commander, I let them. I just wanta fun, bug-free and unvaried game.

If it was bug-free and didnt take 20 mins to load, I'd probably buy the booster packs, but often I just cant be arsed to sit and stare at the BF2 load screens.
