What do you mean, "when you were younger"? I happen to have a recital tonight (you've never heard ABBA tunes until you've heard them on the swinette).
Hey it's 6/6/6!!!
I always thought ABBA was evil. I guess this proves it.

Heh, that's the thing about exams - make you all semantic
It's not exams that have made me this way. In fact, no one can really explain my ability to speak fairly well, using adverbs properly, and whatnot. I just haven't read enough books, outside of product manuals - which I don't think really count - to warrant my understanding.
Random Friend #1: "Yeah, we'll get there quick.." Me: "We'll get there quickly.." RF #1: *punches me in the shoulder*
Thankfully(?), I've stopped correcting people, friends and family alike, as much as it pains me to hear sentences being slipped up here and there... not that I bruise easily, or anything.

"Life was a carnival! We entertained ourselves! We didn't need moooovin' pitchurrrres. In my day, there was only one show in town -- it was called "Stare at the sun!" ... That's right! You'd sit in the middle of an open field and stare up at the sun till your eyeballs burst into flames! And you thought, "Oh, no! Maybe I shouldn't've stared directly into the burning sun with my eyes wide open." But it was too late! Your head was on fire and people were roastin' chickens over it. ... And that's the way it was and we liked it!" Dana Carvey's "Grumpy Old Man" right? Never failed to absolutely kill me.
I'm old and I'm not happy. Everything today is improved and I don't like it. I hate it! In my day we didn't have hair dryers. If you wanted to blow dry your hair you stood outside during a hurricane. Your hair was dry but you had a sharp piece of wood driven clear through your skull and that's the way it was and you liked it! You loved it. Whoopee, I'm a human head-kabob. We didn't have Manoxidol and Hair Wings, in my day if your hair started falling out when you were 16 by 19 you were a bald freak. There was nothing you could do about it. Children would spit at you and nobody would mate with you so you couldn't pass on your disgusting baldness genes. You were a public menace, a crome dome by age 20 and that's the way it was and we liked it! We loved it. Hallelujiah look at me, I'm a bald freak oh happy day! Not like today, everybody feeling good about themselves. I hate it! In my day we didn't have these thin laytex condoms. So you could enjoy sexual pleasure. In my day there was only one kind of condom. You took a rabbit skin and wrapped around your privates and tied it off with a bungee cord and you couldn't feel nothing! And half the time you didn't even know your partner was there. And we used the same one over and over again! 'Cause we were ignorant morons! Just a bunch of hairless, head-kabobs standing around with rabbit skins on our dinks and that's the way we liked it!

Yes, I am an idiot. So when I installed XP 2+ years ago (still going strong and running great) the CD did not even include SP1. Now, Pre SP1 XP could not recognize more then ~130 gigs. So you would just partition it, and after updating to SP1 (or later now) you could then in windows allocate the rest of your hard disk to other drives.
Turns the freak out, I forgot to do that (allocate the rest of the drive). Was just doing some maintenance and clean up tonight and found out I had an extra ~30 gigs lying around on one of my hard drives, unallocated and unused!
Hah hah, yes I am an idiot!

King Richard's Faire (overpriced, IMO) has one area where you can take a picture with a boa that exceeds 15'. I decided to volunteer, along with a handful of others in my group of friends, to sit with it and take pictures. Quite fun.

For your amusement (or ire):

And yes, it -should- be "couldn't care less." As in, I couldn't care less that you said that incorrectly, considering I understood your intended meaning.
I also love "we will be touching down shortly". Measured in minutes, or picoseconds?

"I could care less" makes absolutely no sense when used as a retort. Then, you're actually saying that you do care for the subject. As an American-Canadian, I say down with this bastardized, neutered form. Possibly. However, we don't really know how much they care, only that it's a non-zero care value. It could mean that the amount that you care about said subject is slightly higher than the movie Gigli on the care scale, which is still quite bad.
The fact of the matter is that we lazy Americans will reduce the number of sylables to something shorter and smoother, such as "I could care" said in a sarcastic way. Y'all understand?

I've noticed a divergence between US English and English in that you guys all say "I could care less" when we say "I couldn't care less." Everyone on here says it.

I know the intention is “I could not care less”. But even if I was to take it on strict grammar rules it makes perfect sense to me. Sure it makes perfect sense if you take it on strict grammar rules, but you'd still be misinterpreting what the person meant to say
Personally, I think people should really just say what they mean in the first place. Especially when it comes to written communications. At least when I'm speaking to someone in person, and they say something non-sensical, I have an easy opportunity to verify what they mean before the conversation continues. But when something's written, all I have to go on is what's in front of me.
Why should it be my job do decipher their meaning (even if it's relatively easy to do so)? If a person wants to communicate with me, it seems only reasonable that they would at least take the time to ensure their message will be understood..
"For all intensive purposes" is a great example of people saying shit they just have no business saying. I immediately begin to question the validity of whatever point their trying to make when I see someone use that. There's someone who mis-heard the phrase "for all intents and purposes," didn't understand what it implied in the first place (otherwise they would quickly realise the person could not have said "intensive purposes"), but thought "oooh.. that sounds smart and serious. I'm gonna use that next time I'm being smart and serious."

it's not really "US english" speakers that say it, but stupid people that say it. Yes they must be stupid. It is not like nobody ever in communication just adapts the norms of their local culture, they also never put their own inflection on it. I also should point out that we as humans are so stupid that we have to communication perfectly by the extremely strict rules of grammar other wise it is impossible to understand the meaning.
i mean, jesus people, think about it... "i could care less" makes no damn sense. Makes perfect sense to me. I know the intention is “I could not care less”. But even if I was to take it on strict grammar rules it makes perfect sense to me.
That is also why Bush got reelected. All the time, over and over the democrats would make fun of the way he speaks. Ok fine, every now and then. But they made it out to be such a huge issue, really hurting their side. Any person with an IQ over 50 could clearly understand the meaning.
It is no different then somebody taking a class in college and refusing to learn from a professor because he has an accent. I mean sure, it might be funny when he pronounces theta as ‘tatae’, and it might be odd when he introduces new words; but by and large anybody who is not being biases can easily understand what they are saying most of the time.

It's not that stupid people say such things it's a difference in the uses and country in question. Most Americans are ignorant of the proper use of the English lanugage, but I'm pretty sure a lot of British are just as ignorant of their own system.
