No, that demographic is not called "Men," it's a subgroup of men (and maybe a few women) who don't mind being manipulated by companies who want your money through an appeal to base desires that objectify women.

A subgroup of men? Ok, so... straight men.

Look, I understand E3 is all about video games. I like video games. I also like titties. Those girls are not going to get me to buy their product - actually, while looking at the pics, I don't even know what game they're advertising for, and even if I did, I wouldn't go buy it just for the girls. I just like the titties.

I find it extremely humorous that the women realize they are called booth babes and that's okay with them.

Might as well call them Whore-Lites.
Maybe they just don't take it as seriously as some people around here do. So they are good looking and wear a tight outfit. What precisely is wrong with that? They have the ability to turn men's heads, which is exactly why they're there. They get people's attention. They'd probably get my attention. That doesn't mean I'd buy anything or even look at a game more favorably though. Anyone that thinks that is an idiot.

I wonder exactly when it was that it became such a sin to cash in on your looks. Seems to me that that's capitalism. If you've got something people want, then you've got a market to sell to. Models of all kinds do it. Both male and female. I, for one, appreciate it. The only thing worse than flipping through a magazine full of ads is flipping through a magazine full of ads with ugly people in them.

Booth babes = eye candy with no substance that cost alot of money. Sure seems like the perfect match for video games to me.

But I have honestly never understood why - in an internet full of actual porn - people would be interested in online booth babe galleries.

I couldn't agree with you more !
jeez what is this, Blues Brokeback News?
I know nerd gamers know nothing =about= nekkid girls,
but now people here don't even LIKE nekkid girls???

Maybe next year E3 can have Booth "Johnny Cakes" Boys for you guys. sheesh.

has this been the lamest E3 of all time
very lame imo, a boring, tired, rehash of the same old dog and pony show with products that just aren't very fun or interesting or innovative.

It will be about four years before it's out, at which point the PS3 should be finally affordable.

Not only am I against objectifying women,
I'm with you in principle except for that part. Using female beauty and sexuality as a marketing tool doesn't objectify women. Humans are corporeal beings, and women are sexual creatures as much as men even if they don't express it or are influenced by it in the same manner. Yes, such marketing is manipulative of men by using their own libidos against them to influence their judgement, but women aren't unwilling or uncompensated participants in such marketing and flaunting their beauty and sexuality doesn't make them objects. It makes them human.

And people like you and me...*can* make a difference there, if we refuse to be treated like fucking idiots
While I certainly have enough self-control and self-awareness to not let my libido cloud my judgement, that doesn't mean I can't or shouldn't appreciate the scenery. I don't see it as an either/or proposition. Companies can bait me with sexual suggestiveness all they want. I'll just take the bait and still leave them dangling if their products suck or I don't need them.

According to physics that makes me less dense than you.
It also makes you less diligent. The contents of your posts definitely do show you to be dense, and unlike you I am not talking about the scientific definition of the word.

That's it? <sigh>
If you want a better retort then you are going to have to do better at provoking me because I have been called a lot worse than that by a lot better than you.

However, since you were so disappointed in my dismissal of your previous attempted insult, here's a better rejoinder for it.

You love the sight of your own text you pompous ass.
Well you obviously hate the sight of yours to write such crap. And, you're not alone in that hatred.

Not only am I against objectifying women, but I resent companies thinking they can just sell me shit by flaunting some babes.

I don't think any company at E3 thinks that. What they likely think is that they can attract more attention by flaunting some babes. Hopefully that attention will cause them to sell shit, so indirectly, you are correct.

Of course, the reason they think that is because it tends to work. If I have a choice between some nerd saying "come try this game" and a hot 'babe' saying "come try this game", I'm very likely to go try the game the hot 'babe' is pushing. If that makes me "manipulated", so be it.

So just by entering your opinion into the thread you've admitted being influenced by the marketing.

Yes, if your speaking in absolutes terms. But very rarely do I come across a provocative marketing scheme that I can't dismiss in five seconds.

I pretty much hate women, on principle, but I'm largely helpless against them in person. If you can reject coarse marketing I salute you. But will back myself into a corner should we meet.

EDIT: oh and if the images are garnering a reaction then they're working, whether you think they are or not. So just by entering your opinion into the thread you've admitted being influenced by the marketing.

Riley,

No, that demographic is not called "Men," it's a subgroup of men (and maybe a few women) who don't mind being manipulated by companies who want your money through an appeal to base desires that objectify women.

For my part, for example, I resent any attempts at such manipulation. Not only am I against objectifying women, but I resent companies thinking they can just sell me shit by flaunting some babes. That equates to them thinking I'm a fucking idiot, and I don't buy stuff from people who tell me that I'm a fucking idiot.

Now, there are enough nerdwads who are fucking idiots and who will buy low quality shit just because they're being manipulated in that way. But it's by far not every man on the planet earth.

And sure, the same goes for cars, magazines, movies, or whatever else people advertise with the "Get this, it's associated with hot babes, you fucking idiot" method.

And people like you and me (I'm assuming here, from your comments, that you're aware of the effect and have the ability to resist it) *can* make a difference there, if we refuse to be treated like fucking idiots. As you said, supply and demand.
