F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point Announced

Sierra announces plans for F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point, an expansion for Monolith's first-person shooter in the works at TimeGate Studios set for release this fall:

ALMA RETURNS IN F.E.A.R.™ EXTRACTION POINT
The most critically acclaimed FPS of 2005 returns!

LOS ANGELES, CA –May 5th, 2006 – Vivendi Games’ Sierra Entertainment today announced that the first expansion pack for the award-winning PC title F.E.A.R.™ (First Encounter Assault Recon), is currently in development and will be unveiled at the forthcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.

F.E.A.R. is a paranormal action thriller presented entirely in first person, an unprecedented adrenaline rush of close quarters combat seamlessly melded with the spine-tingling, shocking intensity of the unknown.

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point kicks off where the original game ended – with a bang. The First Encounter Assault Recon Team (F.E.A.R.) returns to battle the now free Alma and her paranormal minions across a destroyed city. New locations, weaponry and enemies combine to take the F.E.A.R. franchise to new levels of action and suspense.

Developed by TimeGate Studios in conjunction with Monolith Productions, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point is an intense first person close-quarters combat experience that expands and continues the rich atmosphere and engaging, paranormal horror storyline first unleashed in F.E.A.R.

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point is planned to ship for PC during Fall of 2006.

I eventually managed to fix it myself by almost completely turning off hardware acceleration, which ofcourse sucked.
Ah, that bug. Yes, that is a Jupiter engine bug and Monolith later claimed to have fixed it, but it still happens in all of their Jupiter engine games. I am so used to playing those games without audio hardware acceleration that I completely forgot about it.

The release version had a really fun bug where, upon loading a level, it would sometimes "forget" to draw an object that was needed throughout the course of the level. For example, you needed a coffee can at some point, and the game just wouldn't draw it.
I ran into that bug near the end, in the underwater labs. You needed to get into a particular room to find some documents or something. I knew where the room was. Looking through the door, I could SEE the damn papers lying on the table. I had the KEYCARD that would open the door!
However, the game had forgotten to draw the little keycard slide thingy that would open the door for me.
The only way to fix it was to reload the level, but sadly I had no savegames from before left.
I never experienced that one. Of course, I didn't play the game until it had already been updated a few months after release, so that might be why.
