23. Fastest Growing MMO Apr 7, 2006, 17:52 nmg

It that negative growth? I cancelled my account two weeks after buying the game. Talk about a waste of money.

I don't mind D&D Online ..
.. as long as all the idiots who subscribed stay there and the hell away from any MMO I decide to play.

You should actually say that about WoW, not DDO. The DDO crowd is much more mature than the WoW crowd. I think the lack of loot drama is a huge part of it.

"DDO isn't a terrible game, like EQ2. But it isn't a good game, like WoW, or many others"

WTF you smoking? EQ2 is 100x better than DDO. (Not that that's saying much). :p

KOTOR2

I don't think people care so much about the NWN2 official campaign as they do about the modability -- it's much closer to what people who are transitioning from pen and paper RPGs to CRPGs are looking for.

Anyway, I note that Halsy stopped crowing about DDO being the second coming ever since he got into the beta.

you'd think a game called Dungeons & DRAGONS Online would have at least one Dragon at launch

Ok, that's just silly. "Dungeons and Dragons" is the trade name. No one with a clue should be taking as a description of the content.

The PCGamer never said this would be in launch.

well, as the foxtrot cartoon cleverly put it, you'd think a game called Dungeons & DRAGONS Online would have at least one Dragon at launch....

We are offering this exciting new content free to our subscribers, in recognition that the amount of content at release was a total joke. We also need the PR from this to get more suckers signed up who think free content packs are going to be normal.

I guess I'm the only one who is really enjoying D&D Online.

I'm enjoying it, but I'm with a group of people that I've been gaming with for a year now.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love being able to sit in chairs. I'd love not turning while sitting, and other fixes. Still, for now, its $15 a month is worth it to me.

PC Gamer had an article about this part of the game well before its release... their big "thank you" to the fans is the noble gesture of not charging them for something that was supposed to make release but didn't get finished. Gee, thanks.

The PCGamer never said this would be in launch. In fact, they said it would be released a few weeks after launch. Of course, they fell through on coming out with it that quickly.

Well I think instances are good in moderation. It's one of my major sore points with games like Guild Wars and City of Heroes/Villians. If you are bouncing around from instance to instance for missions/quests and only hitting populated zones with other players for trading/selling/repairing/upgrading etc you aren't given or really look for people to do groups with.
Example is most of the people I meet and become friends with and quest with are just chatting with them or joking etc. In World of Warcraft these type of areas would be Goldshire or the Crossroads (yeah yeah I have an army of lowbies), or one of the smaller citys/villiages. Only time I go to a major city is for banking, trade skills, buying/selling and getting new spells, or to get to another continent.

If you actually had / or are playing DDO, you would understand my complaint. DDO isn't a terrible game, like EQ2. But it isn't a good game, like WoW, or many others. It seems like every player just runs through dungeons at screaming fast speeds, so people that prefer a slow, methodical, take your time and enjoy the freaking expensive game pace are shunned. I played it for a few weeks in beta, and then almost a full month once it was live for retail.

I mean come on, a game that calls itself a *ROLE-PLAYING* game that doesn't have *RP* servers, and won't even let player characters sit in chairs? Instead, when my character sits and I turn my camera he spins on his ass like he sat down on a pole? What the heck?

It's just sad to me that a game like WoW has better role playing opportunities than a game that licensed a D&D property. Sigh.

apparently all of Turbines mmogs will now be of the "99% instanced" variety - a quick glance thru the Lord of the Rings Online site seems to indicate that. You'll need a Fellowship (party) to do anything at all beyond the intro, just like DDO. i guess such a system sorta makes sense for LotR, but damn they're buying up good properties and then locking out a major portion of players who only sometimes group.

I tried to like it, really, but the game is just terrible. It uses the same game model as Guild Wars but offers less, and charges $15 a month for it on top of that.

PC Gamer had an article about this part of the game well before its release... their big "thank you" to the fans is the noble gesture of not charging them for something that was supposed to make release but didn't get finished. Gee, thanks.

I love D&D and really love Eberron, but smashing my gonads with the campaign book would be a more enjoyable experience with the game world than playing this thing.

Well from reading the Dragonlance Novels, how did they handle fear with Dragons?
