Don't be so smug over paying $50 for your PC games. Your time will come. With the cost of next-gen games on the rise, your PC titles will soon be $60 too. It's only a matter of time. Bullshit. People have been saying that for years now, and so far the only ones we've seen over $50 were NWN and Warcraft 3 (there may be a few others that I don't recall). Console games, on the other hand, have always been more, at least since the time of the N64. I believe they were over $50 on release even before that, but I don't remember.
New PC games have averaged $50 since the days of X-Wing, and in all of those years, the price hasn't changed. There's no reason to assume it will anytime soon.
Game development costs have gone up, but it's not because a "next-gen" game instantly doubles the development cost or something. I'd wager it has more to do with increased labor costs, increased advertising costs, etc. There were older games that had huge voice talent (one of the bigger costs for a game if I'm not mistaken) - such as Star Trek: A Final Unity - and yet they managed to stay at the $50 price point.
