When you are handling say the memory or the video card, or even the motherboard before it is installed; just make sure some part of your skin (can be hand, forearm, leg, foot, nose, anything) is touching the metal frame of the case. This will prevent you from statically shocking anything and messing it up. Not something that happens to often, but it can and it is simple to reduce the likely hood a million times.
Yeah, I just touch the metal part of the case frequently and have never had a problem. May not be the preferred method, but it works.
Oh, and don't go rubbing balloons in your hair, shuffling your feet on the carpet, and especially don't get in and out of your vehicle while fueling if you put your computer together at a gas station.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fears path, and only I will remain |

And when you put your new processor on your heatsink, be sure to spread the thermal goop with a toothpick .... ...and the thread goes into a raging debate over goop-spreading methods (again) in 3... 2... 1...
EDIT: Wow, I'm a graduate! On the board, anyway.

This may sound silly but, How should i ground myself? When you are handling say the memory or the video card, or even the motherboard before it is installed; just make sure some part of your skin (can be hand, forearm, leg, foot, nose, anything) is touching the metal frame of the case. This will prevent you from statically shocking anything and messing it up. Not something that happens to often, but it can and it is simple to reduce the likely hood a million times.
and HOw do I test my memory? Just get this program: http://www.memtest86.com/ You gotta make a bootable cd or floppy to use it though. Then let it run through a few times (will take a good 45 minutes to do that).
With so much memory now a days, you can have parts that are completely hosed, yet your OS does not even begin to use that upper portion of the memory so you will never notice it until get crashes or other odd results in games (or other memory intensive programs).
But that program will check it easy, and exchange them if they are bad (but most likely they wont be!)

Grounding: Use a wrist-strap tied to the computer chassis, or at the very least, touch a metal part of the case to discharge any potential static buildup.
Memory testing: Others have recommended MemTest86 - I've used it, works pretty well.. http://www.memtest86.com/

And you will have a top o-line system too. Bar none.
All good stuff. I personally, even if I had extra money would have went with a slightly slower CPU, but hey, if it makes you happy and you can afford it!
Just remember to ground your self properly when installing the new hardware, read the instructions carefully and take your time. And of course install ALL the drivers (including motherboard drivers) ASAP.
Test everything good (especially the memory) and open the packages carefully incase you gotta send something back!
And don’t go cutting off any UPC codes for rebates until you are sure everything is solid and your going to keep em!

When I try to click the "Forgot Password" link and fill out my info (I just changed e-mail addresses on my profile there), I get:
"Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information."
...and my old e-mail address no longer exists/works....
EDIT: should have mentioned there was a bug when I tried changing e-mail addresses initially... but it seemed to operate all right afterward - until I tried returning to the board later on, finding that my username/password combo was no longer working.

...but realize that you could buy the 4200+ and get 80-90% (worst case) of the power for nearly half the price. In most cases you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
As is the case with most PC hardware at that level of performance...

Okay, so I uploaded a picture of myself to the messageboard at swant.ca... not realizing it was the "full-size" version. Whoops. Afterwards, I find that somehow my account's become inactive. Hmm.
I hope I didn't break the board...
