hurry! get in line outside Walmart!

edit:
So, "Japan, North America and Europe" is world-wide?
A few people in Australasia might disagree,
the day may soon come when you'll be glad you're far far away from the entire northern hemisphere.

A few people in Australasia might disagree, not that I've seen an Xbox 360 around here (Sydney) yet...

Was reading over my April OXM issue and it covers in detail the timeline for the 360 launch. I don't have it infront or me but I believe the developer systems went out in August. The final machine came off the line and went into testing early september. And by early october when the shipments were supposed to be leaving china via ships they realized they were going to launch in the US with only 300,000 units.

So I think my estimate of july is pretty close to when prototype machines of the 360 show'd up. Dev systems should ship shortly after, then they should be mass producing systems in september, shipping in October and selling in November.

So it's possible if sony has a system functioning at E3 there would be almost no trouble launching in november. But if not it should be possible within 3 months of a prototype being completed and tested. July 31 is kind of a deadline for them, if they don't have a working system ready for mass production they can probably be looking at a shortage much like MS had during launch or pushing the launch back.

I'm pretty certain all the Xbox's last E3 were Macs. Maybe some were actual hardware, I can't remember.

A better question is when the final dev kits went out. June for Sony. November launch. Sounds a bit tight.

banddirector; hard to put a price on something when they don't even know what's going to be in it, lol.

They might actually have something that resembles the Ps3 at E3 this year instead of an empty plastic case

They have a release date but not a running box... Mabye the working box will show up at e3. I don't recall if e3 had a working 360 to talk about back in 05... For some reason I don't remember seeing the finished product until about july or something like that, anyone verify when MS had complete'd their 360 prior to the november launch?

Worldwide, huh?

I had a feeling this would come. Microsoft failed at launching worldwide, despite all their resources. Now Sony wants to show the world how much better they are.

Political implications aside, reminds me of how Hitler wanted to show the world he could succeed in invading Russia in the winter after Napoleon failed.

Notice they didn't say what the price will be?

Don't forget the release of Halo 3 to really cut into PS3 sales...

I am suprised though that the PS3 will have a worldwide release though. Not a typical Sony strategy.

I've yet to see a single ingame bit of footage from a PS3 game, so i'm still leaning towards an xbox 360. Plus i just so much prefer the xbox controller. So much nicer to play with.

Delayed? Suprise, Suprise. This was coming a long time ago.

Bill Gates must have huge smile on his face now. And just think, they will certainly drop the price of the 360 when the PS3 is released. Sony will loose money and have a LOT of ground to make up come November.
