Well... My original point was: "lower end developer partnered with a lower end publisher". It really wasn't meant as a direct bash on Turbine.

I mean... so far... Midway has published mostly crap, with very little advertisement.

Turbine's DDO is somewhat in deep doodoo with Atari scrambling not to go under. (DDO Publisher)

MS Abandoned Turbine after AC 2 (Go figure, although MS was just as much at fault for that piece of shit, as Turbine was).

I just don't see Midway putting out the "publishing support required" for an MMO, like a more prominent MMO Publisher... say NCSoft... or something.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

I feel like the devs and designers at Turbine have never ever played a mmo in their lives. What's up with all the devs and designers these days that target a genre that they know nothing about? It's like designing a baseball game without knowing the rules. I wish they'd just give it up and do something more mindless like an FPS shooter or something.

Conies...not rabbits. "

Actually, the correct term is Bunnies when it comes to mmo's.

Any online game with exsisting lore usually sucketh. Who wants to play some nobody when the real heroes are Legolas, Arragon, and the like.

Give me a world where everyone is a nobody and let me try to make a name of my own instead of stacking me up against exsisting characters.

Anyway I wish them luck. Fans of LotR can be very rough on anything not done right.

I might play it if it lets you punt hobbits.

I might play if I can bugger them with my wizard's "staff".

While DDO is a turd, I think Lotro looks and sounds really good. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I fucking HATE WoW, so I hope something else decent comes along soon. It's bad enough I have to play a fantasy themed MMO because there are no decent Sci-Fi MMOs.

DDO and LofRO are by two different teams and use very different designs. From what I've read, LOTRO is more like AC/AC2 than DDO.

AC1 wasn't too bad on the hackers when it first came out (of course). I didn't really notice them for a while. AC1 really was great, however. I especially enjoyed leveling up my jump skill, so I could jump on to buildings (you could find a set of stairs and just jump across them to level up faster).

AC2 was beautiful when it came out. The graphics were the best in the MMORPG world. The original concept of having the players create the content looked good on paper. And I suppose if you had millions of players, it might have worked. But alas, there was no content at launch. You pretty much just ran around killing things at random, working to level up. They also removed what made AC1 so great, the skill system.

I think DDO is not trying to be a WoW, or an AC/AC2. It's a dungeon crawler. That's what the devs have set out to do, and IMO, they've achieved that. LotRO I haven't even looked at, so I can't comment on that.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I think Turbine hit the magical formula with AC1 and has since then been unable to repeat that. A shame, their graphical engines are usually really good when they come out. Now if the rest of the game could catch up, it's be a success.

Turbine has always seemed like the second or third string MMORPG. You had AC when EQ was popular. It had its fans, but I never felt compelled to play it and the buzz was it was highly exploitable (which is probably why some people liked it). Then there was AC2, which was crap by most accounts. By then DAoC was popular and EQ was still strong. I played some DAoC and then dabbled in PS, skipping Turbine games entirely.

Now there's DD0 and LoTRO. So far, I think I'd go play some WoW again before I'd try those turbine games... unless player reviews say otherwise.

Poor Turbine, Asherons Call, in my mind, was a big success, they did something pretty different from both UO and EQ at the time and there was a lot of merit there(albiet pretty boring)

It's been downhill since then...
