Dave Perry runs this blog site here. I thought it was pretty cool, and it helped me decide to choose Audio Production as my major. I'm hoping to get into the game industry's audio field.
So in my book, Dave Perry is pretty coo :-P |

I am curious as to the details of Sacrifice's outsourcing. I've never heard anything about this.

There's enough of us here that like the game. We should put together some sacrifice games.

but as far as i know sacrifice was more or less an external project for shiny, it was a more or less "bought in" than a "brought in" game Curious. I definitely read once that Sacrifice uses the same RT-DAT tech from Messiah. If what I read was correct, then Shiny must have had at a reasonable hand in putting the game together (or at least have been there fairly early on when the game's technology was being decided upon).

Wasn't MDK the PC's first real sniping game? Kind of revolutionary, I think.

the 3d patch was released shorty after the official release, i played it with 3d card support and with the patch that enabled quicksave at any point (and not after finishing a level) i had the "luck" that mdk crashes with a soundcard bug every few minutes and it was impossible to finish a level without the help of the quicksave option, btw the patch never leaved the beta status and wasn't it perry telling us in his "gamedesign bible" that a game designer should not decide for the player, when to save the game ? most of his games had no "normal" save option |

But I knew it didn't ship with support out of the box (I was working for P.I.E., the U.S. publisher of MDK at the time). Yeah, I was gonna say, I was prety sure if was posted after the fact, and not when it first shipped.

nin, you got me! I didn't realize they released a 3dfx patch for it. But I knew it didn't ship with support out of the box (I was working for P.I.E., the U.S. publisher of MDK at the time).

No you didn't. MDK did not have hardware 3D support of any kind. It used a software rasterizer. And Voodoo 1&2 did not have 2D/primary display support.
Um...coulda sworn it did...
Here ya go! http://www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_temp.asp?patch=mdk3dfx
edit: http://www.interplay.com/support/product.asp?GameID=169
mdk3dfxe.zip - 293 kb The 3DFX Glide native 3D card patch for MDK. This version requires Windows 95 and DirectX 3.0 or better.
mdkd3de.zip - 308 kb The Direct 3D patch. Please note that this release of the 3D driver and does not support all 3D cards or all 3D features of the cards. This patch also adds F2 Save game feature for the full game.

I was 17 when MDK came out. Playing it with a Voodoo2 I think, maybe just an older chip. No you didn't. MDK did not have hardware 3D support of any kind. It used a software rasterizer. And Voodoo 1&2 did not have 2D/primary display support.
MDK was kind of fun for about 30 minutes. Then the amusement just ends when you realize it's incredibly shallow and repetetive.

That's a ridiculous comparison and you know it. You're comparing dime a dozen budget titles that most likely took 6 months or less to make to a major release across 3 consoles and the PC. It was a big budget game and the franchise was incredibly popular and *somehow* Shiny ended up with it. The games sucked (ETM and PoN). There are no excuses for it.
Once again, I never said that ETM was a good game. My statement was emphasizing how ETM is not one of the worst games EVER MADE. "EVER MADE" includes every game EVER MADE, regardless of budget or development time. Now, is ETM one of the worst games ever made with a decent budget? Quite possibly. But that has nothing to do with my claim. Please read posts carefully before whipping out a hasty response.

A million isn't even a lot of money these days. Hell, just to buy a house in this area you're 70% there.

Anyone else finish Messiah? I couldnt beat the final boss until I used God Mode.
I thought it was a great game - maybe a bit short but I really liked it. I never could understand all the negative feedback on that game. In fact - I wish they would make more 3rd person games with that kind of control scheme instead of the "click mouse to move" stuff you get today. I liked the active interface.

There was no sequel for Sacrifice because the sales figures were really, really poor for some reason. In fact, it suffered a fate similar to Tribes Vengeance, where further patch support came to a screeching halt with relatively no notice.
I never understood it, really - it wasn't perfect, but it was definitely one of the top five games in the last 10 years for me.
