Out of the Blue

Dark Horizons (thanks Ant) reports the good news for Arrested Development, that the final four episodes of the season will air as a two-hour finale on Friday, February 10. The bad news is that it looks more like a final finale rather than just the end to the season, as they have scheduled this opposite the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I myself would watch just about anything as opposed to the Olympics, so this is a no-brainer for me, but it really does seem like this one is a sacrificial lamb.

If you busted your ass, training for years and years, and someone else (who trained just as much as you did) managed to beat you at an event, you wouldn't have the slightest bit of respect for them as a person?

Oh, I see what you mean. I personally don't consider athleticism very impressive. It involves doing the exact same thing over and over time and time again ad nauseum. But yeah, if I really wanted to be the best swimmer, and I beat some other guy, I'd feel better than I felt before, except I never would try to be the fastest swimmer in the first place because what's the point? Once I get the medal, then what? I regale the kids with my story over and over and over and over and over? I win other medals? At best I would become a footnote.

Now, if I parlayed my fame into a political career in which I actually did cause something meaningful to happen.. but why not go for the political career in the first place? Probably because I'm an athlete and, let's face it, athletes are dumb. Like your muscles, though, your brain grows stronger as you use it, so hey Mr. Swimmer and Mr. Decathlete and Mr. Bobsled, why not try to do something a little more useful?
