Out of the Blue

In a reverse of the more normal pattern, it rained all night and now has been snowing all day. I needed to drive somewhere today, but it's so ugly out there, I think I'll just play it safe and lay low. Where's the hot cocoa?

Speaking of cocoa, I never see it in stores excpet for the baking stuff (Fry's), is the same thing?

Nope, and you'll be bitterly disappointed if you ever try to substitute one for the other.

is the same thing?

Try a glass. And get your response on film.

I'm about 99% sure they're NOT the same. Baking cocoa is almost bitter in taste. Trust me, I tried adding it to milk as a child. Whooooa!

And there is always www.logmein.com to use - to remote to your home machine and do whatever you want.

I've never heard of this - - thanks for the link!

BTW for all you newer car owners out there: more and more cars are available with a keypad to open locked doors. The car I got a few years ago has one, and I'll (hopefully) never go without one again....

Edit: Uh, www.logmein.com is blocked, too. In retrospect, I should have known ...

Since we are in the middle of a dry spell for PC gaming, that doesnt look to end for a while, and I have some extra money laying around dont now how or why, just spend it before they take it away I was looking at X3.

Although Mario Kart DS WiFi is absurdly simple and annoyingly limited it does seem to keep me plenty busy around here, especially at work. Im just looking for a good long PC game, I like the idea, I even downloaded the patch anticipating a purchase, I just dont seem to be 100% sold on it yet; input.

Uh, spare key, anyone?

We have hide-a-keys on both vehicles. Saves a heck of a lot of time on the rare occasion you get locked out and theives are not going to go poking around the underside of a F-150 or a Grand Caravan looking for a key to steal the thing....

If they want it, they'll use other means of entry.

I would say your IT department at school needs to get with the program and install FF like the majority of other schools, colleges, and corporations are doing

I haven't seen many corporate (or equivalent) deployments of FF due to the complete and utter lack of remote configuration tools for it (particularly as compared to IE).

But even so, can you really defend UGO's craptastic advertising policies? How many times have we had people report "bad" ads that attempt to install malware? Why should Blue, or any of his readers, have to put up with this?

Hey, you know I'm a huge Firefox advocate, but this is really a much bigger issue -- Blue shouldn't be having to worry about his readers getting crap on their systems from surfing here. It's not that kind of site. But UGO sure as hell doesn't seem to care if Blue gets a bad rep.

Edit: To be perfectly clear -- I think Blue does a good job of removing bad ads when he's notified of them. What I'm saying is that he shouldn't even have to do this. It's ridiculous.

I'm writing this on the forum in the hopes that maybe Blue isn't aware of this, and maybe he can convince UGO to lighten up on the spyware. I've got pop-up blockers that keep this to a minimum, but it's obviously still a problem.

I would say your IT department at school needs to get with the program and install FF like the majority of other schools, colleges, and corporations are doing (or researching).

On top of that, a little tweaking of the network hardware and workstations would catch other things. Blocking sites isn't really an option in the real world anymore.

/edit: And there is always www.logmein.com to use - to remote to your home machine and do whatever you want.

Over Christmas break our school installed a new internet filtering program, and I was very dismayed to find out that BluesNews was being blocked. I was able to convince our sysop to "unblock" it, but he did so reluctantly. He said he did some poking around on the site, and the reason it was initially blocked is due to all the pop-ups and spyware that apparently UGO insists on putting on BluesNews.

And I wasn't even gonna mention it...

Oh hell, I couldn't pass that up.

Fortunately my truck auto-locks the doors at 15 mph, so it's difficult to lock my keys in. However, that isn't to say that I haven't done it.

Mine's the same way. But I'm in the habit that the moment I step out of the car, I hit the lock button. Well. I take it in for service. And I leave the key in, since they'll have to pull the car around back. So I step out to greet the attendant, and what do I do? Hit the locks and close the door. I felt sooooooo stupid. I was like "And you're gonna need to get another key for that, too." as I pointed at the door.

edit: The best part was the next time I took it in. Same guy. I said "And this time I left it unlocked for you!"

The one time I locked my keys in the car was when I was at home, so it was easy access to the spare key!

Not a good year starting off for me - car repairs, financial hole again (just about there), and now this. Very easily stressed out right now.

Well, on top of my previous car-repair/inspection adventure last week, I locked my keys in my car this morning. The Camry likes to auto-lock the doors once the cars started for around 5-10 seconds after turning the key. Guess I saved a few seconds to head back to the apartment, and lost an hour this morning...
