Have a gander at the next Dodge Challenger:

I have a soft spot for Challengers as my uncle was a Dodge mechanic and built one of these from scratch for his daughter (my cousin). That thing was beautiful.

I'm a few months younger than Z, and I've had more cars...

1974 VW Superbeetle - (Purchased with my own money, but wrecked a month after I turned 16)
1989 Honda motor scooter (I was living in Key West - this is a totally viable mode of transport)
1985 Jeep Cherokee/1985 Nissan 300 ZX - both of these belonged to my folks, but I drove them regularly
1987 Suzuki Samarai - parents made me trade this in for the next, which they owned, but were bored of
1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - crappy car, constantly broke down
(Cars purchased with my own money)
1995 Toyota Corolla - reliable yet boring
1998 Saturn SC2 - fun, but I wanted something bigger
2000 Nissan Xterra - OMG too big!
2002 Toyota Camry - just about right

Beauty is truth; truth beauty - that is all ye need to know on earth...except TCP/IP.

Speaking of these new retro cars - this is just a concept but it makes me drool like a St. Bernard at a bacon cookoff.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! Style. Now if we could just get the Big 3 to start building this stuff...

Well, as long as I'm dreaming, I want a pony.

Just bustin' your balls.

LOL. Yeh, I know. If history is any indicator I'll be writing the wrong date for about another month.

Do you mean last year? As today is the first "workday" of this year, pretty hard to get earlier then that!

Sorry. This is coming from a guy that was still signing forms as "2005" today.

Yeh, I meant earlier in 2005, like around March. Same company, but different departments: one based in Cambridge Mass, the other in suburban NJ. The NJ department got me, which is fine as now I don't have to worry about moving or finding a new apartment.

Earlier this year it was looking possible my new job would be in Cambridge Mass. If that were the case I'd get rid of my old 1991 Oldsmobile alltogether and just use their subway system. I know a bunch of people that live in the cities that do that.

Howevver, I live in the suburbs and work 10 miles away (though many hills) in yet another suburb. I can't take any mass transit there, and the hills and some busy/narrow roads would make biking difficult (not too metion I'd probably have a friggin heart attack due to those friggin hills - way too steep). Considering my situation a car makes sense, and once (just once) in my life I wanted to own a new car.

Europe definately has the right idea. Yes, in the US we have subways, and we have trains that run between (some) towns/cities. But unless you plan things out just right between where you live and the job you choose, our systems don't really cut it.

When I went on business to Basel, Switzerland, I loved how everything ran. A train from Zurich airport to Basel, and Basel was thoroughly covered by mass transit. We need more like that here in more places.

First off - the fluffy dice are cool!

Since I got my license at 16, I've driven:

I think I may be missing one but here goes...

'62 4-door Ford Fairlane: cost $20, sold for $250 four months later.
'71 Triumph Spitfire w/racing suspension (felt like the axles were welded to the frame ;)handled like a go-cart): 16 years old with a convertible sports car... excellent!
'65 Corvair: four carburators!
'78 El Camino: still the nicest I've ever seen.
'77 Dodge Powerwagon PU: gotta tow the boat.
'72 Chevy Malibu: nice, but racing stripes sucked.
'80 something VW Rabbit: looked like hell but a great little car.
'72 Bronco: not enough power.
'83 Porsche 944: had this one for 11 years, loved this car.
'87 Ranger PU: replaced the Dodge, just sold this one a couple months ago.
'91 Maxima: great, great car. I'd still have it but it got shmooshed.
2000 Mazda 626: runs great, but ehhhh... it gets me there.
'94 Cherokee: always gotta have a 4x4 to get around in winter and pull the boat.

Looking for now: A mid-90's Nissan 300Z to replace the Mazda- I miss my sports car!

Most of you probably guess, but I never had a reason to own a car back in Sweden. Just an unnecessary expense when you can either bike or take the bus/tram/subway wherever you want to go

Yeah. It seems that a lot of people in Europe go all their lives without actually owning a car and get by just fine. The population density is just much larger across the pond.

Around here I could take a bus to school. Well, two buses as it would require a transfer. And my first semester I did when I did not have a car. It takes about 45 minutes one way the way the routes are and waiting on the transfer. It takes me 5 minutes to drive to school.

Though I am going to get a bike and start biking to school on nice days since I can take a slightly longer route and go through mainly residential areas, just have to cross 2 high traffic roads.

I'm sure some have owned more (especially mechanics?)....

In order....

1968 Ford F-100 Ranger that had been restored to nice condition.....that truck was beautiful.
2000 Dodge Ram 1500: Had that pig 5.9L and a rear end that liked to eat carrier bearings.
2004 Dodge Ram 1500: Hemi. 23k so far and not a single thing wrong (given the record of the 2000, this is a big deal).
2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Co-own with my father. Fast.

I'm 23 22. Yeesh, can't even remember my age....I must be getting old.

Nearest I've come to owning a car before was the wife's 1977 Volvo 240 which I drove 11000 km during six weeks in the summer of 2003 in the line of work. But that's a whole other story in itself.
