Call of Duty 2 Patch

Call of Duty 2 Patch Information now offers downloads of a Call of Duty 2 Intel Dual-Core Hyper-Thread Optimization Patch. Here's word on the 5.52 MB update:

This Call of DutyŽ 2 update is recommended for Windows 2000/XP users with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) enabled processors, multiple processors, or systems with a dual core processor. This update will bring any supported version of Call of Duty 2 up to version 1.01. This upgrade will not affect pure server, and will not affect your ability to join or host multiplayer games with version 1.0 players. Infinity Ward worked closely with Intel to improve Call of Duty 2 performance on systems with HT Technology, multiple processors, or dual core processors. If you do not know whether you have a multi-processor, dual core, or HT Technology enabled system, please see the ReadMe file for simple instructions on checking your system.

Please note that Call of Duty 2 is a very graphically intense game. The greatest performance increase from this upgrade will be realized by selecting Optimal System Settings in the Options menu.

This update supports US/UK English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Russian language versions of Call of Duty 2 only.

Is it really that bad? I was thinking about getting it.

Ah, actually it's definitely an improved game all around. If you have the system to run it on the highest settings, the game is visually stunning. What bugged me were some of the mission's seem like cheap fillers. The Brit campaign in North Africa? Bleh, if I wanted a desert environment again, I could play any number of CS maps or Delta Force games. IMO, the Russian campaign was the best, but it was just another "take over the train yard and hold it until reinforced" just like in MoH and the United Offensive Expansion for CoD.

" Increasingly, games are being designed for a TV and gamepad, then 'ported' to the PC.
That doesnt make for good games."

I totally agree dude. It is great for less work for the devs, but the PC component ends up taking it up the azz. I am seriously considering not buying a PC game if it has a console counterpart. And no I am not really worried that my gaming will be limited. It already is limited by the amount of console crap desguised as a PC game we are getting now.

"This game is great on the 360. Glad I didn't bother getting the PC version of this."

IMO it's every bit as good or better on the PC. We just like to see improvements and the 360 needs improvements on the save bug, they had to give out a cheat code to fix it in a round abouts way. And the whole online matchmaking part fo the 360 is messed up. PC overall is in better shape comparatively.

No, it's not bad at all, just more of the same. The graphics have been upped a notch though nothing ground breaking in my opinion. If you liked the first one you will like this one as well.

Is this only for intel ? Because from the text, it seems dedicated with people with processors with HT technology (intel), or people with multiple cores or multiple CPUs (any brand).

there's always Day of Defense...and Red Orchestra...and BF1942...and Hidden & Dangerous 2...and Medal of Honor...and Return to Castle Wolfenstein...and Brothers in Arms...and OK YOU GET THE IDEA, SERIOUSLY. STICK A FORK IN WW2, IT'S DONE.

(unless of course someone comes up with a unique idea and uses the canine Dogs for Defense program and recreates the novel 'Always Faithful' as a PC game. man, i wish i knew some 3D modeling...)

This is about the most infuraiting thing I've ever seen. Dual core procs have real problems with this game that are not always obvious, for instance reinforcements will stop coming, mission checkpoints won't trigger, the health recharge system stops working, etc.

One of the developers used to hang out on my IRC channel and mentioned that I wasn't the only one griping about dual core problems but Activision was refusing to release a patch unless it about 4 other major issues were found. Apparently Activision isn't huge fans of patching lately.

Now they release a patch just for Intel!? Who the hell owns Intel dual core? Nobody! This makes my blood boil.

At least now what know what IW was actually working on when people were complaining about real problems like cheating.

From the posts below, it seems there were real problems with people with multiple CPUs.

So AMD dual core users get screwed??

If you've seen the advertisements for this game (some of which were here), you know how much Activision was in bed with Intel with promoting this game. At least now what know what IW was actually working on when people were complaining about real problems like cheating.

COD2 is a great game, especially online. People dogging it need to go back to CS or whatever gayness they were playing before, lol.

Its not bad but I personally don't think it was as good as COD1.....but that may be because I've been playing BF2 and COD2 MP doesn't come close to that.

It is sad to see buggy games being tied in with a simultaneous release on a console platform. Increasingly, games are being designed for a TV and gamepad, then 'ported' to the PC.
That doesnt make for good games.
