38. Re: Homemade claymation Dec 2, 2005, 06:51 Gen. Hospital

Did some googling. Turns out the particular series I was thinking of, was in fact East-German socialist propaganda. Sorry.

When I was a kid we had Czech socialist-propaganda animation on TV.

EDIT: It's the second of December over here now, so (According to the radio), happy b-day, Britney Spears.

*pauses work on a cruddy yet fun dance tune in Reason 3*

1. I'm too young to have ever heard/seen the Czech propaganda animation, despite having traveled there a few times in the late 80s and 90s, unless the influence was no longer present... jak se mas, Gen. Hospital? jsem dobry

2. *shudder* she and a friend of mine share a birthday.... I'll have to remind him.

It's about urban people around 30, so there might not be such a problem with cultural recognition.
Yeah, and the use of cellphones seem to be catching on here finally.

I'd be more worried about American morals
Haha, so we won't be seeing Rocky on TV or being sold to minors.

Who knows? The City as a concept is one place, though, innit? It's about urban people around 30, so there might not be such a problem with cultural recognition. I'd be more worried about American morals, and the... utter lack of such in Rocky. Some people here in Norway consider Rocky an abonimation. So they don't read it. The yanks tend to be... more vocal about stuff they don't like, no?

Oh, and they mentioned on the news today... Martin Kellerman's 'Rocky' is being launched in the US.
Oh, but wouldn't a lot of the jokes be kind of dependent on knowing the Scandinavian culture? Guess they'll have to do something about that.

Don't flatter yourself. What makes you think any of us have read everything you've written here?

You may be the only one...

You mean punishment, right?

Eh... If you say so

Oh, and they mentioned on the news today... Martin Kellerman's 'Rocky' is being launched in the US.

There was one episode of Davy and Goliath where Davy dumped paint into a well, and of course got into trouble, etc. etc.

What kid would EVER think of dumping paint into a well? None, unless they see some dumbass Davy and Goliath cartoon where the animators had to come up with some dumbass bullshit for Davy to pull so they can execute their glorious "JESUS WILL SAVE YOU FROM EVERYTHING" message.

If indeed there is a christian god, I have no doubt that he sentenced the D&G animators/creators/etc/etc to hell for ALL ETERNITY TO BURN GRATUITOUSLY

24. Homemade claymation Dec 1, 2005, 17:38 Killer Kane

I have been toying with GIF animations for a couple of months (on top of website design & Photoshop manipulation) so I tried my first actual "claymation" using a hand held digital camera , Animation Shop and some pics off the web.The photos are a little blurry and the sound is not synched , but for a first attempt it has some production values and shows some potential for fun (I would love to be able to produce stuff similar to the Tool music vids)...and NO I'm NOT "Gay bashing"...I just HATED "Davey & Goliath as a kid , always so pious and squeeky kleen.

Am I missing something in that guitar video? It just seemed to be an uninterestingly shot 7 minutes of average classical guitar playing, like something Bravo would be showing at 2 a.m.

22. Re: KotOR III Dec 1, 2005, 16:08 The Half Elf

I'm just praying that Bioware finish's up the series.

As for getting through security, especially here at Orlando's airport it took about an hour and a half to get from ticketing to the actual gate. My roomie got through all of it in 15 mins a few days before Thanksgiving, which shocked me. Maybe building that 3rd terminal payed off.

Wow, maybe with KotOR III they'll just take out that darned endgame altogether. Once you visit, say, half the planets, a comet always hits your highly-Millennium Falcon-like ship and kills you (in a very short, 5 second movie). THE END

20. Quake II Xmas.... Dec 1, 2005, 14:44 Halsy

This is Emil Pagliarulo's (first editor of Avault back in the day) brilliant piece.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the base,
The scanners showed no signs of the alien race.
The bullets were placed in my chaingun with care,
In case Strogg invaders soon would be there.
The other marines nestled all snug in their pods,
Dreaming of gibbage and dark vengeful gods.
And I in my Kevlar, and official Quake 2 cap,
Had just settled down for a long cryo nap.
When out in the night there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my pod to see what was the matter.
I ran to the porthole, well shaded and sealed,
And cautiously turned off the magnetic shield.

The moon on the breast of the loosely packed mud,
Reminded me of Stroggos, and the puddles of blood.
When what in the sky should I get in my sights,
But a big hover sleigh and eight huge Parasites.
With a mountainous driver, whom I saw at a gander,
I knew that it must be a damned Tank Commander.
More rapid than lasers his coursers they came,
And he whipped them, and grunted, and called them by name.

"Now Slasher! Now Mincer! Now Pincer, and Mangler!
On Killer! On Ripper! On Gutter and Strangler!"
"To the top of the sandbags! To the top of the wall!"
"Move it, you maggots, or I'll slaughter you all!"

As starships that before a black hole should race,
When they meet with the deadliest hazard in space,
So down to the barracks the cyborgs they flew,
With a sleigh full of ammo and the Tank Commander too.
And then, in the courtyard, I gulped as I saw,
The gouging and scraping of each razor-sharp claw.
As I drew forth my blaster, and let out a call,
The giant Strogg bastard broke right through the wall.

He was dressed all in steel, both solid and mesh,
Held together by strips of grotesque human flesh.
A bundle of rockets he had flung on his back,
He could kill a small army with what he had in that sack.
His eyes -- how they gleamed!
"I must sound the alarms!"
This monster meant business,
He had cannons for arms!
His sly little mouth was drawn up in a grin,
And human blood dribbled all over his chin.
His guns issued smoke in a hypnotic pattern,
Encircling his head like the great rings of Saturn.
He had a broad face and a square, solid chest,
And a cybernetic heart pumping blood without rest.
He was muscular and frightening, a right evil old 'Borg,
With one thing on his mind -- sending me to the morgue.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Filled me with panic and horrible dread.
He spoke not a word but went right to the slaughter,
And my sleeping comrades became cannon fodder.
He killed all the soldiers with dual rockets blazing,
As I stood in horror my eyes blankly gazing.
The carnage complete, he strode back to the sleigh,
And I could do nothing but whimper and pray.
But I heard him say, as he flew out of sight,
"Merry Christmas, Hu-man. You got lucky tonight!"

I'm sure it was confirmed somewhere else, but this is the first time I remember seeing print with someone 'in the know' talking about it...
Shhhh, I haven't finished the first one...
