Steam Plans

A new Steam Update (thanks Frans) offers a screenshot from an upcoming Day of Defeat: Source map release along with a tease of a new game due on Steam before the end of the year:

Over the next few weeks we'll have updates coming to Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source, starting with one new level for each. Last week we talked about de_nuke making its return to Counter-Strike, and this week we'd like to shed some light on the new Day of Defeat: Source map coming, named Argentan. We've included a screenshot from today's playtest.

Coming soon, we'll have news about a new game that's coming to Steam before the end of the year. We're looking forward to giving people a chance to check it out.

Well, I doubt it is anything profound, that that would be quite the treat, but I do think, from what was said, it will be 2005.

Same thing with "...the end of the year." Valve surely knows 2006 is "next year" while 2005 is this year.

Done with Gun already :|,
Ray Some stupid fun, but not what it should be - worth $30.

I don't think those are recent.
They look like the HL1 engine.

TF2 would have been done by now if they weren't so busy trying to reinvent the wheel with the commander mode & all that shit.

I doubt that is it, BF2 seemed to have no problem with it, I think, I have never played BF2 (I know Tumbler I'm sure there is a special place in hell for me). Valve has always struck me as an interesting developer, I'm not sure TF2 was ever taken seriously or really even in development for any appreciable length of time.

Valve has, what, made one product and two games, I dunno I just never took TF2 as a real effort. I could be wrong, which in my entire life has only happened twice, but …

Edit: "Ships on 02/01/2006" Okay, that should buy you a few more mgs.

For a light chuckle, check out this page for TF2 on EBGames.com - and check out the *cough* awesome screenshots.

I'd wager that more work has been done on DNF than TF2.

Just do the same thing you did with DOD & CS; just port them to HL2. Job done.

The game is obviously sin episodes but it could be manke's new zombie project.

Anyway its NOT TF2... I don't see valve releasing TF2 anytime soon. First, the need to finish HL2 Aftermath. Second, a game so (sadly) anticipated will be presented in E3 (and not in 2006, I bet) and not in a mere webnews post.

Honestly from what is said I don't think it's a game done by Valve. 'A new game that's coming to Steam' just screams to me that it is done by someone else.

Team Fortess Classic is still one of the more actively played games... Team Fortress 2 would be welcome news indeed.

TF2 has taken forever and there was tons of hype about it... several years ago.
Its still not released.

Don't you know about diakatana? Or were you still in elementary school when that happened?

TF2 most likely hasn't been worked on in years. The hype was not from the developers themselves, no one was trying to make anyone their bitch, and nice try, but I'm well above the average poster age. Good, though, to see that the best insult you can come up with is the old standby of "hey, nothing you said would imply it, but you're online so you must be young."

Simple rule of thumb...never download executables of map packs. Mostly this is so you dont get a trojan for someone trying to steam your Steam Account info. But ya they can also change things you may not want to have changed.

True and even more dangerous is that the pack could also have included a cheat recognized by VAC2 which will you get banned forever even without activating or knowing about the cheat.

Never install CS:S executable add-ons!

Ever since i downloaded a CS:S custom map pack from PAF full of complete shit maps, that also screwed up CS:S and replaced the default menu-background with a butt-ugly PAF background, Im having a hard time trusting downloads from them.

Am I the only one that read it as saying that there would be a new game on Steam in '05?

It's definitely not Dark Messiah of Might and Magic since that isn't due until Quarter 3 of 2006.

And I doubt it's that MMO using the Source engine since it has only been in development with the engine for roughly a year.

So it's either Pirates of the Burning Sea (which is due to goto Beta before the end of the year) or it's the first of SiN Episodes. Of course it could always be some unannounced title Valve has quietly been working on, but I doubt it.

My money is on either the first of the SiN episodes or maybe even the SiN redone in the Source engine as they had said they were doing that.

Edit:
"..chance to check it out",

Now that you point that phrasing out...it probably means the beta of Pirates of the Burning Sea. Probably going to have a beta for like everyone that bought HL2, or one of the Steam packages or something.

"..chance to check it out", probably means it'll be released in chunks, like CS:S or DOD:S with few maps at first and then more content added later.. or maybe its episodic

Anyway, its rather silly how they've now already set this short timeframe for this game before its announcement, stick to start using "When its done", valve.

I'd list that punkassfraggers.com link last, kind of makes ppl want to just dismiss the entire list without giving each a chance.

his sig makes people disregard that list

I don't take advice from trolls.

I put the VIP mod at the top because a lot of people miss the game mode being absent from CSS and most won't even know that it's being worked on unless they went looking for it. The mod team is also getting code assistance and support from Turtle Rock and Valve.

From what I understand, the only thing holding up the VIP mod is getting the maps done.
