TKO TKOed? Gray Matter Tattered?

Gamecloud has a pair of speculative stories about a pair of developers, each supported by information in the Wikipedia, the publicly editable encyclopedia. Gray Matter Merged With Treyarch? points out the credits for Call of Duty 2: Big Red One suggest that Gray Matter Studios (previously Xatrix Entertainment) has merged with Treyarch, a theory supported by info in this article. Meanwhile, TKO Software Shut Down? is an unconfirmed report based on this Wikipedia post that states the developer shut down this past August.

Actually, it looks true after all. While Gray Matter's site still runs, they are no longer listed on Activision's studios page. Looks like they were indeed quietly merged. I know both studios were in the same city so maybe they just consolidated them to save money on seperate offices.

They're also making ET: Quake Wars with the Doom3 engine. It might be more versatile than you think.

That's being done by Splash Damage who is still an independent studios. Why Activision would be interested in merging two existing internal divisions is beyond me. I don't see how they'd save a huge pile of money, especially since these two studios are two of their most profitable ones next to Raven.

And I would say "Good riddance". RR is all about open environments. Doom 3 is all about narrow, dark-as-a-black-hole corridors. They're also making ET: Quake Wars with the Doom3 engine. It might be more versatile than you think.

...familiar with TKO, but I was always impressed with what Gray Matter did. True or not, open or not, merged or not, I hope them the best.
