Half-Life 2: Aftermath Delayed

An Half-Life 2 Aftermath Update on Halflife2.net (thanks Vahe) has word from Valve's Doug Lombardi on a Delay to the Half-Life 2 expansion:

Just wanted to give you a quick update on Aftermath, specically its ETA. We're working very hard to finish this new episode for HL2, however, its going to take us a bit more time to get it into top shape. As such, the target release for this one is now Feb/March of next year.

You know, Assley...erm...Riley has been realtively subdued lately. I wonder if you guys finally hurt his feelings enough to make him go away.

Even when he is conclusively beaten he still comes back for a hiding... he probably just hasn't noticed that this topic is still active.

They should also point out the box doesn't include Terminal Velocity, and DX Ball. Because I thought it did, and all.

Ah...DX Ball...that's a flashback!

I remeber getting in to an argument with Assley Putz. It was about Valve not clearly displaying on the in-store box of HL2 and HL2 Collectors Edition what games came in the box. He said Valve was ambiguous about whether DoD-Source was included or not. From memory, I stated that there was no such indication of DoD being included.

Of course Assley managed to twist things in his own way saying asomething like how Valve *should* have pointed out the DoD source was not in the box. I finally gave up then. Now I just ignore him. He is just an asshat.

Edit: here we are.

He's Assley Putz, what did you expect?

Only someone who's sucking down the Valve corporate cock would call him Assley. He's a freedom fighter for this fine country, and all you can do is break down what he builds up! I HOPE YOU'RE ASHAMED.

In the words of Assley "LOL!"

Yes, I agree you can't be taught which is why I only wrote a few comments in this thread on why I had not posted in Steam threads for awhile and intended no further ones on the matter.

Do you ever get tired of acting like a 12yr old? I'm being serious, as you seem to have a real chip on your shoulder.

Steam has no advantages which overcome all of its technical, privacy, and economic shortcomings and problems. The harm it does to consumers and the market is real and unjustifiable.

I think I'll take that statement and turn it around:

"Steam has no disadvantages which overcome all of its technical, social and economic advances. The benefit it brings to consumers and the market is real and well justified."

See, the way that is phrased ("which overcome all") means that you cannot challenge it because the emotive term "overcome" is based completely upon opinion. Therefore my pro-Steam statement is as accurate as your anti-Steam statement. You don't actually put forward an arguement, just bullshit. Debate works by considering both sides and making a fair and rational judgement based upon the evidence (and your personal viewpoint), not simply ignoring whatever makes your "arguement" weaker.

You are, purely and simply, a troll. You contribute nothing to these discussions and merely irritate other members with your refusal to consider any point here that doesn't conform to your stance.

Neither you nor I know what Valve's former publishing contract with Vivendi actually stated regarding pricing, but what I do know for a fact is that the lowest street price of Valve's games published by Vivendi have always been and still are (via old inventory) cheaper than what Valve offered directly via Steam for the same SKU. Even Valve's new retail offerings distributed via EA are no more expensive that Valve's prices via Steam. The bottom line is that the savings Valve has via Steam have not and are NOT being passed onto customers. As a matter of fact, Steam costs customers more because the retail offerings get discounted by stores due to competition and to get rid of them while Valve has never lowered its prices on Steam. You can make all the excuses you wish for why Steam costs the same or more, but the fact is it has and does and most likely always will.
As usual you are wrong Riley.

Source Premiere Pack
http://storefront.steampowered.com/v2/index.php?area=package&SubId=43&l=english&s=0&i=&a=92,219
$59.95 for HL2, HL Source, CSS, HL2DM and DODs

Retail GoTY edition
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/258768.asp
$49.95 for HL2, HL Source, HL2DM and CSS

Since DoD Source is $20 to buy stand alone, this is a $10 savings over retail purchase. If you don't want DoDs then retail would be the wiser choice.

Valve Complete Pack
http://storefront.steampowered.com/v2/index.php?area=package&SubId=44&l=english&s=0&i=&a=92,219
$79.95 - click the link to see what comes with it.

Nowhere in Retail could you get all of this for even close to that price point. Furthermore, ALL of Valves products have come down in price on Steam.

As with any retail product, if you shop around or if you wait awhile after release, you will find someone trying to unload the product cheaper to get rid of it...but once it's gone it's going to be harder to find.

If you elected to ignore it why reply to the first part of that sentence?
Because the first part was stated as fact, and my point was to demonstrate not only was the statement untrue, but it makes his opinion which follows based upon a lie or exaggeration.

As for ragdoll kung fu: You continue to spout off opinions on games you've never played...And yet, here you are, calling a game which you've never even played garbage.
You rashly assume that I have never played the game or seen it played despite the fact that I have never written anything on the matter.

You have nothing to teach us,
Yes, I agree you can't be taught which is why I only wrote a few comments in this thread on why I had not posted in Steam threads for awhile and intended no further ones on the matter. You simply wanted to be a contrarian by starting this discussion with me when my comments to which you replied were not addressed to you.

One final reply, then...
You've been wrong on that here too.

Alright, you totally missed or ignored the point of each of those little soundbytes you picked out. There's nothing I can say to convince you that what you do (trolling nearly every Valve thread) is not productive, and is, in fact, annoying.

One final reply, then I'm going back to X3:

We all know that there are draw backs to Steam. We all know that it is not the golden standard of online distribution. But unlike you, we also see the benefits of it and all decide for ourselves whether these benefits outway the drawbacks. Based on that assessment we either use or do not use Steam.

What you cannot accept is that we aren't all a bunch of mindless drones, incapable of making decisions on our own. You treat everyone else in a Valve thread like a child (calling me "spokesidiot" in your last reply, very mature of you, very level headed) and brush their opinions out of hand. It's as if your brain hasn't even considered the fact that we might already know that Steam is not a beautiful piece of programming, but elected to use it anyway because it's not that bad.

First, he did not state or even imply it was an exaggeration. However, it is untrue regardless.

We all know that you don't manage to troll every single thread but even you have to admit that you show up in a great many of them and make the same "argument" over and over.

Also, perhaps it's a sign that you're not actually thinking about what other people mean when he uses an obvious expression ("pure hyperbole" you call it, and accurately so) and don't even bother to think that maybe that's intentional, and maybe that part of his sentence was not really relevant to his arguement.

Second, as to his overall point, sure I understood it but as it is just his misguided opinion, I couldn't care less what it is so I ignored it.

If you elected to ignore it why reply to the first part of that sentence? The first part was, once again, not an argument he was trying to make, it was simply contributing to a greater idea!

As for ragdoll kung fu: You continue to spout off opinions on games you've never played. I still remember a thread where you went off on the inferiority of Valve's fatial animation system and discounted my opinion on a number of games because you claimed "[I'd] never even played them!"

And yet, here you are, calling a game which you've never even played garbage.

Blah. Whatever. Steam is not great, WE ALL KNOW THIS, but please stop treating everyone in these threads like your pupils. You have nothing to teach us, nothing to show us, we simply don't hate steam or Valve as much as you.
