EA Announces The Sims 2: Holiday Edition for PC (thanks Frans) reveals plans for a limited edition of the cash-cow people sim:

Any you just did what?

I don't really have a big problem with EA doing this as I imagine most of the items will probably be made available for people who already own the game. This is just bundling them in the retail box and releasing it at a special time of year. People know I'm no lover of EA, but I don't see this as a big deal.
