Battle.Net Teaser

Battle.Net now offers a teaser for, well, something. There are several different teaser images each with individual Warcraft and Starcraft characters. Every image emblazoned with the date 10.7.05, so Blizzard may have an announcement in store for us tomorrow. Thanks Voodoo Extreme.

It's not that the US date system is wrong... I just view it as ignorant for a huge company like Blizzard to not consider it.

Maybe that's it. Blizzard isn't a huge company (Vivendi Universal is huge. Sony is huge.) Blizzard is a large game company yes, but they're no EA, and we shouldn't wish them to be.

Perhaps it is a bit arrogant of them to assume to use the US date system. However, they are a US company and most of their player base originally came from the US. Having since grown more internationally you would think they would pay more attention to their non US customers, but, eh. Honestly, I think they know they're smarter than most of the folks in the US and didn't want to confuse us poor Americans

Honestly, I've long ago learned to figure out what format sites were using for their dates (generally DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY) and compensate appropriately.

But if you don't know the site and the date is written 6.7.05 it could be the 6th July or the 7th June. Using the dates in context with a culture (so MM/DD/YY being used in the US) is fine but when used on an international site with no universal date system it can be, and often proves to be, confusing (not in this particular case, what with July having been).

It's not that the US date system is wrong... I just view it as ignorant for a huge company like Blizzard to not consider it.

It is idiotic, indeed...
All right, Blizzard, show us what you've got and please send me some of the stuff you're apparently smoking!

Look at www.battle.net now (don't forget to press Ctrl+A).
I think I'm speaking for everyone here by saying "What the...?!"

UPDATE. Hmm, "orly" is the Russian word for "eagles", and an eagle is indeed on that ASCII picture. Nevertheless - huh?

UPDATE #2. OK, now there's two eagles. Someone is having fun.

I hate the fucking US date system - outside of US-land

That's nice.

It's also wrong. There are several countries outside of the US (or North America, or even the Western hemisphere) that do MM DD YYYY. There's also a rather large number that do YYYY MM DD (Japan and others) or YYYY DD MM (which is just plain fucked up IMO).

And, of course, any programmer worth their salt will tell you YYYYMMDD is the only one that makes any damn sense. It's sortable.

Yes, to be clear you should always spell out the month, but that doesn't have the "punch" they were looking for.

Honestly, I've long ago learned to figure out what format sites were using for their dates (generally DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY) and compensate appropriately.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but it's just a new web site:

http://www.battle.net/war3/tournaments/season3.shtml

Under the "Season 3" header, 5th bullet point down:

More Details. On October 7, we’ll be launching the new Season Three website and revealing the dates of the other qualification periods, sponsors, prizes, formats of the tournament, details about the LAN finals, and more!

World of Warcraft Expansion
StarCraft: Ghost
Diablo 3

I really doubt they would announce all that at the same time...

WoW: Expansion is already known, and StarCraft: Ghost has been seen. If they want to announce Diablo 3 I'll start paying the monthly fee for it six months before they release it lol.

I hate the fucking US date system - outside of US-land "10.7.05" means 10th July, 2005. Why couldn't they put an international date (like "October 7th, 2005")? I think it smacks of ignorance, especially when they are an international company and probably sell as many or more games outside of the US/Canada. [/End Rant]

Still, at least they produce better games that most companies, though I do wish they could recreate the gameplay of the original Warcraft as I never found the sequels anywhere near as inspiring or innovative. As long as there is no monthly charge on whatever they announce then I'll be interested... I'm not interested in paying monthly when I keeping hearing how bad the service is.

My mistake i only checked by hitting refresh alot, didn't look at code or forums. Yeh so there is a skull of diablo as well cool

It would make sense if they were doing a online distribution thing, mind you i would of thought there may have been a bit more hype for that.

Mind you i think its quite interesting how all the other images are from existing games, where as the diablo image is of diablo's skull and he hasn't been a skeleton in diablo 1 or 2. probably just wishful thinking tho.

Just to clarify, that "Last Updated" doesn't indicate that they are necessarily doing anything with the domain recently for starcraft2.com. Most domains you will check on will have been updated recently, it's just the update for the domain record.
