It is rarely severe, but I only use IE and see them as well. The issue is that I may have a number of window open, making the advertisement appear repeatedly, or you have other programs open (music, Puzzle Pirates :o, etc.) and you realize Flash does not play well with others and/or does not handle CPU priority correctly.
In general, though, any time an advertisement appears more than once on a page, it is not going to be effective...
Loving the ones that stop IE from doing anything until they are loaded, Ray Oh hell, let us just blame Zathrus!

I never see flash slowdowns with MSIE I do.
Once again, it's not a Firefox problem (in general -- in this case it may actually be one), it's a Flash problem. It occurs in all browsers, on all OS's.
I opened the page in IE6 on XP SP2 just now -- the Star Trek overlay ad ate 100% CPU, the Schick ad ate 75-85%.

So far I'm getting Containment, Instagib and CTF.

I am ok with the "Power of 4" one. It is stupid, but about as stupid/smart as the rest of the advertisements. Even for flash, though, it does seem sluggish. Just limiting it to one per page would help out.
As for the Win-whatever, it would have been sometime this morning. Sometime between 08:00 and 09:30...so 11:00 to 12:30 your time. I have not seen it since then, but it was always a bit intermitent - maybe once or twice a day. It just had the distinction of a being an advertisement that blatantly ignored you.
Are you anti-pop up or just anti-advertisements ignoring your close window request? Not common, but a few of those "Smack/punch/kick/shoot/whatever and win a fee <insert item>" advertisements have been showing up in pop-up form. Maybe remove a few posters, too??? Heh... Just wanting the Winfixer thingie destroyed, Ray

Usual flash crap; the newest "Power of 4" (also known as the idiocy of PR) advetisement is especially demanding of system resources. Once you toss in two or even more of them, thing can s...lll.....ooooo....wwwwwwwwwww down.
Stephen, what is going on with that Winfixer or whatever advertisement. Besides being a pop-up (like a lot of your ads lately,) it is the first advertisement to completely ignore you - repeated - when you tell it to close, opening up new windows or take you to a website that automatically attempts to install an active X control. Do I need to insult UGO even further? Having no idea why Schick thinks the "Power of 4" is any good, Ray

All usual stuff.
Scandisck/defrag.
Pop open the case, maybe even blow a fan directly on stuff, and see how it goes.
Checked all your dumps/logs/crash reports for errors?
Did you tell Windows XP to not reboot on crashes (the default setting) so you can see if you are getting a blue screen with an error.
Is your RAM just one stick or two or more? Can always run Memtest on them and try running the system with just one stick in it at a time, hunting down any possibly bad sticks.
Also for RAM, checked your timings lately? Even tried slowing them down from whatever it is rated for? Check the manufacturer website for any issues with that specific series or with certain harware combinations?
Blame nin or Matthew? Either one, but not both - only I can do that! Pretty sure I have jack short in my A2ZS :(, Ray

Welcome back... so did you win or lose?
Yeah, what was Vegas like?
It was a great time - as always. Took it easy on Saturday when we got out there, plane rides tire me out so we just checked out the NFL lines and found the casino with the best numebrs. Made a few bets and turned in early.
Sunday was the day. Football starts at 10am (Watched football all my life at the Noon kick off, just throws me off when it happens before noon CST) so needless to say, betting and drinking was going on at around 8 am. The games were ok, I was hoping for a better showing from Indie, but hay, thats the way it goes. Most teams are only as good as the team they are playing on a given day. Also took a hit for betting the under and against the queens, go figure, Culpepper remebered how to play FB this week.
Won my money back on the Sunday night game (very handily) and then played poker for 4-5 hours. Was doing well until about 2 am (note to self, no matter how much you drink and for how long, they never run out of alcohol)
Chilled out Monday, just hung around the casino (read: Recovered)
Walked to In-n-Out Burger on Tuesday and went to Drais' for dinner that evening. (Once again, just cause they haven't run out of Stoli, doesn't mean I have to keep drinking Matinis) Went and checked out House of Blues and there was LIVE Karaoke (sp?) which was hilarious. Live band with people trying to sing along. Great times. I am not one for it, but it was worth the sight.
Hung around and people watched on Wednesday and headed back.
Of the times I have been out there, I don't think it was ever as hot as it was this week. On top of that, super dry lately, so I was struggling at times with sinuses and such. Glad to be home where there is some humidity.
As far as winning and losing? I spent what I wanted to and had a great time. I always make sure to have a budget when I go to Vegas, otherwise it can get out of hand.
Batman... Batman... Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in, where a man dressed up as a BAT gets all of my press? |

Not sure why but on the main page whenever that orange razor advertisement pops up, in 2 places sometimes, the page stops responding. Won't scroll with the mouse wheel but I can move the slide bar down manually.
In general since those adds showed up this page is been broken about 50% of the time for me. I use firefox and if I used IE then pop up windows start showing up....
Anyone else seeing this happen? YES!! i was just coming here to see if anyone else was experiencing this problem as well. it's that blasted orange shaving razor! kill it!

Reboot example: Copying a large file from my dvd or cdrw drive to the HD can sometimes result in the system rebooting. And other assorted weirdness. When I was doing some DVD editing, with lots of file type conversions (extensive use of hard drive and cdrom in tandem), mine started crashing.
I came to find out that the ‘NorthBridge’ chip was over heating (which was hard to findout, since the MB did not report NB's temp), it already had a heat sink on it so I installed a fan and problem solved!
