Brothers in Arms 3

Gearbox Software sends a follow-up to the announcement of the "Liberation" launch party for Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood (story). The event will also mark the announcement of Brothers in Arms 3, though it's not clear whether this will appear on PCs as well as next-generation consoles. Here's word from Randy Pitchford:

On Thursday, September 22 at 8pm at Trees in Dallas, Texas, Gearbox Software is hosting “Liberation” – a launch party for Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood and exclusive reveal of Brothers in Arms 3!

One of the interesting things about this event is that Gearbox decided to give the opportunity to fans to stop by and mingle with the Gearbox crew and the many local Dallas game developers that will be in attendance from Ensemble Studios, id Software, Nerve Software, Ritual Entertainment, Terminal Reality, Klear Games, Paradigm Entertainment and others.

The party will feature live entertainment including a show from Moulin Rouge dancers, lots of premium door prizes (like high end video cards and other computer equipment) and free food and cocktails.

Additionally, Gearbox will be showing a demo from the about-to-be released gold master of Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood as well as the first-ever public glimpse of Brothers in Arms 3, which Sony announced recently at the Tokyo Game Show will be coming to the Playstation 3.

I think some of your readers who may be in the Dallas, TX area on Thursday may want to visit the event. The rest of your readers who cannot attend, may be interested in an exclusive announcement and exclusive look at Brothers in Arms 3.

In any case, without a doubt, “Liberation” is going to be the biggest Dallas game industry party of the year.

You can direct readers who are interested in “Liberation” to the following URL:

http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/liberation/index.php

Also – More information about Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood can be found at the Gearbox Software website and at www.brothersinarmsgame.com.

And – IGN.com was the first site we noticed who picked up the story from Sony at the Tokyo Game Show that Brothers in Arms 3 is coming to the Sony Playstation 3. So – I’ll give IGN a link to that story here too in case you want to reference it:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/651/651384p1.html

Note that the official Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood website will be launched the day of the party and that what is being shown at the party for next-gen likely won’t be shown again in any form for several months…

The longer it is since I played BiA, the more I come to consider it as a contrived pile of toss

It's like that old joke - what do you get if you cross a badly scripted RPG with a linear FPS? A contrived pile of toss.

Yeah.... bits of BiA were excellent. Bits were awful. And unfortunately in a game that strives to be realistic, it's the awful bits that stick out. I really wanted to like this game, and I wanted it to be a success. But I'm with Ray - I'm slightly suspicious of a "full" sequel in such a short timeframe.

Never playing the game not too sure what the Moulin Rouge dancers had to do with it, but it definatly wanted me to play the game now, lol.

What would have been a little more on target was them do a party in the style of the old USO Shows, that would have been funny.

I got stung by BiA's mediocre-ness so I think i'll wait for it to drop to £19.99, just like BiA did 2-3 weeks after I bought it

For crying out loud - a few sequels and some console ports are not the end of the world, guys.

14. This game is crap anyway Sep 21, 2005, 13:34 TERATOGEN

I don’t think we need another lame console port on PCs anyway. Unless they decide to make a true PC version they should just keep this crap on consoles.

I was shocked about ready the BiA2 release news a few weeks back. I agree, wasn't BiA1 just released this year? They are going after Tombraider's glory of producing a boring piece of yearly crap.

9. Re: Missed the boat Sep 21, 2005, 12:13 Ray Marden

I was hard on Gearbox after the 007 fiasco so I am mostly biting my tongue for now.

My main concerns are such:

  • There were some gameplay/AI issues in BiA that made it a bit of a chore to play. It was a good product, but I got annoyed with the...quirks and ended up taking breaks just to get away from them.

  • Given the burnout I just described, I am incredibly hesitant about EiB. To be honest, it has always screamed out "Overpriced expansion" to me. I mean, what, the came came out just six months ago? And here we are being asked to pay $50 again? That just seems really wrong, especially if this game is not a drastic revolution of the previous one.

  • Please, developers/publishers, do not announce the next game before your current game is even out. In cojunction with the six-month release window, it really gives you the feeling of episodic content (that you are paying full price for,) that this is just an annual/bi-annual rehash series, etc.

  • Anybody remember Tomb Raider?
Looking back at some of the BiA screens, things do look good and I do miss the game a little bit. Perhaps it has been long enough and perhaps the demo will be good enough for me to fall in digital love all over again...

Thinking "full" games should be released a year apart (minimum,)

Geez, the second one isn't even out yet and they're announcing a third one?! I don't know, I don't like the idea of paying full price multiple times a year for episodic content. I think I would have enjoyed the first one a lot more if the PC version wasn't clearly a console port with broken surround sound and if the gameplay mechanics weren't so repetitive. If they put out a demo for Earned In Blood, I'll try it and see if things have improved I suppose.

I don't think the number of sequels is indicative of the success of the series - it's more to do with the episodic nature of the series Gearbox have decided upon. The first one was good, and the squad control was awkward but still a nice feature. It's something I would like to see in more military FPS's. The main distinction from other WW2 shooters was in the authenticity. You'll have to make your own mind up as to whether that matters to you. If it doesn't, there's better games.

Wow, I must be really out of touch, I remember seeing stuff for the first one before it came out and I thought that was last month, it was already released, then a sequal to have a 3rd one coming?

That would mean it was successful, yet I totally missed it, no one I knows has even touched it. Weird.

I remeber a lot of hype about this game, the first one, before it came out. Then when it finally hit shelves I just didn't care. I downloaded the demo and never installed it.

Anyone else just have their interest in this game fall off the face of the earth for no real reason?
