So, obviously, you were supposed to ask "so what's new?"
Ah...um, yeah. That was my second question. Really.
Why not something like "BillsBallBuster" or "Special Balmer Chair Throwing Edition"?

Because my first thought was "What kinda stupid assed code name is Deer Park?" Actually, I think that was mine too... I wrote it off as yet another inane codename. I think all the good codenames were used during WW2.
So, obviously, you were supposed to ask "so what's new?"

WTF is Deer Park Deer Park is the code name for the 1.5 release. It's currently available as Firefox 1.5 Beta 1. I've been running it on a few machines for a few days now (B1 came out early last week I think) with no issues (except that some GM scripts don't work, apparantly because the GM API was changed again).
And before you ask -- http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/1.5beta1.html
The big things right now are the faster forward/backward (it doesn't have to refetch, re-render, or anything -- it's really instant) and better popup blocking.
I expect the updater and "broken website report wizard" to be helpful long term.

Sometimes I love Firefox, and other times I want to beat the fucking shit out of the devs... Yeah. I raised an issue or two in bugzilla, and got the "we're not fixing it" response. I wanted to be able to set which search plug-ins got installed by default (just out of the 8 or 9 it comes with, not out of ALL of them). Got the "custom or advanced install options confuse users, we don't want to do that" response. Also wanted deleted search plug-ins to STAY deleted if I updated, rather than reinstalling themselves or overwriting affiliate links. No dice there either.
Try to help in whatever way you can and get turned off by the 'community'.

Are you running 1.0.x or Deer Park? In either case, you should probably file a bug -- the extension manager shouldn't be leaving shit behind, and especially shouldn't prevent loading if you move/delete a folder it references (or at least should issue an error message!). 1.06...and WTF is Deer Park? I saw it mentioned on the GM page...

Yeah, I mean, you just have to learn C at an expert level and then understand this "small" project. After a couple years you'll be ready to contribute!
And, of course, there's the minor issue that reading other people's code often causes your eyes to bleed...

Punkbuster version .3 is up, will unhide the original post but not remove the warning. Damn DOM tree crap is getting in my way... argh. Earlier, you said you were using .3.5? All I can find is .5.3...
Tried it w/ the script, and after adding in PB w/ the Tools, New User Script option, nothing happens (the page still displays normally w/o blocking), and now I can't add additional scripts ( I click on New User Scrpt and nothing happens)...
Any ideas?
Thank you!
edit (uninstalled .5.3, installed .3.5): Ok, for .3.5...Install User Sript is now grayed out...while I commend your work, I think GM sucks.
edit again: (after uninstalling it) Tried searching for the GM plug-in folder, to make sure it was gone (IE to have a clean install of the plug-in). Even though I uninstalled the plugin, it leaves shit behind. When I move the folder for the plug-in, Firefox no longer runs at all (nothing happens when you click on the icon). So I had to move the folder back.

Solution in spoliers: 1-person (2nd to last on the right side) 2-water (2nd one down from the top, left side) 3-plants (bottom on left side) 4-pot(top, right side) 5-tube (2nd one down from the top, right side) 6-fire(bottom, right side) 7-tree (2nd to last on the left side - looks like a bowl) 8-bone (top, left side) 9-spring (middle, left side) 10-marble (middle, right side) I think the last two are interchangeable

New forms of advertising are always a bit distressing. I've not encountered this anywhere before, but Blue's noow seems to have an advert in its URL/tab icon. Extra revenue for Blue's is all good, but these things always kinda hurt to see...

And, on that note, Camaro -- I don't think your scripts are working with GM 0.6.2 -- the blog indicates that some changes may be necessary to scripts to make them work. I haven't tested the blocker script, but the post enhancer doesn't seem to be doing anything. Yeah, right now I'm using Firefox 1.0.6, I haven't installed the beta since I don't want anything to get messed up. I'll have to wait for the official FF release and fix the scripts then. Thanks for the heads-up, Z. I've bookmared the blog link and will keep an eye on things.
Punk Buster version .2 is up, the "Show Post" link is broken for the moment...

Do you need GM installed?
I take it you could copy and paste part of the script to add multiple users?
Thanks! Yep, you need the Greasemonkey extension. I'm using GM 0.3.5 because I had problems with the latest one.
Actually, I'm working on the next version of Punk Buster - I've got a "shit list" that will hide multiple users. Showing the original hidden post is giving me problems right now though...
I'll put up what I have so you can play with it. (Riley, dsmart and Hellbinder are set as default, took out Enahs)

Do you need GM installed? Yes, GM scripts only work if GreaseMonkey is installed. So now I've finally installed it -- note that if you're using Firefox 1.5 Beta1 you have to get it from the GreaseMonkey site itself in the blog area -- http://greaseblog.blogspot.com/
Otherwise you can just get it through the normal extension site. Shrug, it's a beta.
And, on that note, Camaro -- I don't think your scripts are working with GM 0.6.2 -- the blog indicates that some changes may be necessary to scripts to make them work. I haven't tested the blocker script, but the post enhancer doesn't seem to be doing anything.
Oh, and I meant to say congrats yesterday, but got distracted and forgot!
Edit: Tested the ban script -- it works just fine. The Post Enhancer doesn't seem to work though. This comment was edited on Sep 18, 18:27. |
