You know what's really really odd and coincidental? I was randomly looking at Blue's post history and I typed 600 [for 600 posts back] in the address bar and it came up with a post about... THE MACH 3
*queue creepy Twilight Zone theme*
Okay, I figured that micropulse bullshit was just that, bullshit, but it's nice to hear it from fellow shavers. Methinks I'll stick with my Mach3.
Fortunately I have a job where they don't care about facial hair, so I shave once a week. Well, it's more chopping through undergrowth by that time, but you can't have everything.

Calm down and read the full article... I am far from a Nintendo fan boy, [don't own a signle Nintendo system if you can believe that] the controller IS revolutionary. Nintendo has made it clear they don't care about graphics, they don't care about HDTV, their customers don't need a DVD player. They made a controller to have fun with...
Once again read the full article [assuming you haven't] and realize that it can be used in more than one way. But most importantly it's functionality in being able to be sense movement in any direction including being tilted will be invaluable in many games and current genres and genres to come.

Nintendo had a bit of an uphill battle anyway, but this was a chance to start off fresh and with a better approach.
But that remote controller? GIVE ME A BREAK.
Now some publishers just won't release games on it because of the crap remote controller, all of the "known" gaming genres will have difficulty translating to the remote controller, and, as noted, this is cleary more gimmick than revolution.
We waited for...this? Nintendo really thought...this thing would revolutionze control? Nintendo really thought its competitors would give a damn about...that? Retarded for the win! Wondering how even Nintenod will cope with its own sh*t remote controller, Ray

Well, I tried the M3T, and ohh my god was it the smoothest shave ever, and so comfortable and gentle on the face! The replacement blades are ridiculously expensive. I ranted about this a couple of months ago... that nutty 3-blade razor is better than its 2-blade cousins by an immeasurable degree.

For a non-electric, nothing beats the Mach 3's. Using a Norelco 7-series right now (got it as a gift). I think the Mach gave me a better shave, but as long as I have relatively fresh blades in the Norelco it does OK, and I like the convenience. I just have a bad habit of leaving blades in way too long (both non- and electric). Too damn cheap to buy those things so often. Also, have you guys had trouble finding blades for the 7-series? The ONLY place I can find them is Long's Drugs - Walgreens, etc, don't carry them.

Gamespot has a big article on the new Nintendo Revolution controller... I though this would be big news? Has Blue already posted something about it?
Anyways - IMHO its very far from the kind of thing that is going to "revolutionize" gaming in any kind of significant way.. It IS very reminescint of the "gimmicky-ness" of past nintendo experiments like the ROB and Power Glove.
Basically its like a combination of that "eye-toy" shit and a remote control... its definately a simplified control scheme, and in a way puzzling - considering they are going to have to design games for this controller, and abandon many of the tried and true formulas.
Nintendo is on the ropes big time. I suppose its possible for them to make a huge come back - but it certainly doesnt seem that way since they are going up against cutting edge next gen hardware.

Okay all wackiness aside, does anyone actually use an M3Power? Does that "micropulse" bullshit actually DO anything? I mean, do you notice a better shave compared to your average 3blade razor?
I tried it for a couple months and went back to the standard Mach 3. Whether or not the micropulse stuff does anything I'm not sure, all I know is that the tinier microfins on the M3Power blades suck ass. If I don't have a few days worth of stubble they don't lift anything and I end up knicking the hell out of myself. With the Mach3 I can shave everyday without irritation.

I have one of those nasty 'file down your nails on it' sort of beard... the best I can get with an electric is down to coarse sandpaper. I'm pretty sure I'm somewhere in the 80-grit range after I shave. Electric shavers just don't cut it (pun intended ;)), and the Quattro just doesn't seem to get as close as the M3T does. I'm in the same boat as blue, only 4 or 5 shaves out of the blades; but I only shave every two or three days since I don't have to look pretty.
Edit: To prove the point, one of my rather odd habits is to scratch itches on my hand not by simply scratching it, but by rubbing my hand against my face. Honestly, it works better. --- "Pain, or damage don't end the world, or despair, or fuckin' beatin's. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Granted, I don't have the toughest beard around, but I *love* my Remington Microscreen. I have one of those nasty 'file down your nails on it' sort of beard... the best I can get with an electric is down to coarse sandpaper.
It also means those expensive Mach 3 blades are good for about four shaves. Lucky thing I don't have to stay too presentable. |

The thing's unwieldly as hell, can never seem to get my beard right anymore. I wen't through the exact same thing about 6 months ago for the same reason. It takes a couple of months to get used to the change, but you'll get it eventually. I don't know how much better the shave is over the Excel, but the it's so much quicker and easier to clean.

Now if someone could just make a decent electric razor. There's a place another leap could be found Granted, I don't have the toughest beard around, but I *love* my Remington Microscreen. They suck. Gillette hit the nail on the head with the Mach 3 (personally I like the "Turbo" but horses for courses) and unfortunately without flaying the skin there's little that can be done to get closer or make shaving easier. Simply put, it's the best. And Gillette are having real huge problems topping it, as is made evident by their efforts to create a shaver / dildo hybrid. You think mach 3 is good? I recently had to ditch my trusty sensor excel to get one of those, since the local store doesn't sell sensor excel blades anymore, and man was I right to hold out. The thing's unwieldly as hell, can never seem to get my beard right anymore.
And mach 3's with batteries in 'em. What's the world coming too?
There was a company called 'Ruud and Rye' on the market for a little while, and shavers all over the country went 'Huzzah, finally an alternative to gilette's half assed crap!!!111oneone', but sadly, the strategy Ruud and Rye chose to stand out in the market composed of one serious competitor (and Bic, obviously...), was to make products that were seriously crap.
EDIT: This doesn't look good...

Gillette hit the nail on the head with the Mach 3 (personally I like the "Turbo" but horses for courses) Have to agree there... when you find a product that stands so head-and shoulders above what went before it you have to be impressed... the Mach 3 Turbo makes all the razors before it look primative.
I suppose it would be possible to make a blade razor that gave a smoother, safer, more comfortable shave, but it could never be the quantum leap that the M3T was over the Trac II and the like.
Now if someone could just make a decent electric razor. There's a place another leap could be found. |
