Day of Defeat: Source Date

Valve announces that Day of Defeat: Source will be released on September 26:

Day of Defeat: Source (DoD: Source), the latest version of the WWII online action game from ValveŽ, will be made available to gamers everywhere on September 26.

"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project. "

DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-LifeŽ 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.

DoD: Source leverages the power of the Source engine by introducing advanced sound technology to provide a more immersive soundscape and integrated physics simulation technology for ragdolls and physically simulated objects throughout each map.

Available via Steam for just $19.95 and in the Counter-Strike: Source retail package, DoD: Source is a rebuild from the ground up of Day of Defeat on the Source engine.

DoD: Source will be available for pre-load and pre-order next week. Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available.

Imagine that.....70+ posts.

1. It has grenades that you can cook off.....I dont know of other games that do that.
2. No vehicles, which makes it even better. (I hate chopper whores ie. BF2)
3. It is BEYOND CS:S in WW2 - almost class based. But you can pick up weapons from fallen peeps.
4. You get shot in the head, you die. (awesome gameplay)
5. There is a great community to follow.
6. I think they missed the boat (and I am in the community)
7. No refueling, ammo-up, etc. You out of ammo, you pig stick someone or pistol whip their sorry ass and steal their weap.

I miss DoD.

Batman... Batman... Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in, where a man dressed up as a BAT gets all of my press?

Well damn, you out did me with bitchnugget. Get your own material. Maybe try to be an internet tough guy without five thousand fuck combinations.

Get your head out of the bandwidth ass. You don't know what the money paid is going towards. Gabe says it's to offer us a "choice" (gotta love companies, always lookin out for us). The choice is pretty damn easy if $9.95 is less than the price of buying all those games individually. There isn't any mention of the scenario presented by Arkay, "Unless they FORCE you to buy a whole year, they will LOSE money on this. Pay 19.99 for one month of steam, get all the single player games, finish them, then cancel.". Quite frankly, Gabe doesn't get into any of that or say why he would even think of something they "obviously have no market for". So, you don't know jack about what they've planned, other than they had a monthly fee option in mind. An option, but hey, when this thread started you acted like I was nuts to even mention the words "monthly fee".

Hah, Tumbler with 5.2 million flame threads giving maturity lessons. Good one.

You are the saddest excuse for a flame warrior i have ever seen. Why should i even bother responding to you, bitchnugget, with pathetically crafted insults like:

Dumb stupid dipshit

monkey butt nugget

Oooh, ahhh, i'm fucking shaking in my boots here. You're a doodie head! I just told you that the subscription idea had nothing to do with bandwidth, he explains exactly why in that shacknews interview. You're absolutely fucking worthless. You should be shot, dismembered, and your family fed your fucking limbs just to make sure you don't pollute the earth with your stupidity when buried.

There's absolutely nothing i was wrong about. If you can't understand why, fuck you. Like i said, there's no market for this shit. You claimed that you'd need to pay a subscription fee. I told you why you wouldn't. By the way, your name is too fucking long.

Hey stuuupid asss! I said they would charge monthly fees. You said they would not.

Dumb stupid dipshit that can't remember what he typed wrote:
You think anybody out there is going to pay a monthly fee for a game they can complete in 48 hours? Do you think there's actually a large market out there for people who like Steam so much, they'll pay monthly for it? What the fuck? Have you thought this argument through?

Dumb stupid dipshit found his own counter argument source from Gabe himself:

For some customers it may make sense for them to go with a subscription rather than a one time fee. If you haven't ever bought a Valve game before, you might want to pay a $9.95/month fee rather than paying for Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Counter-Strike, Gunman, etc...

So, yes, there will be subscription choices that a gamer could go with, and no, that won't eliminate the option of buying games the way people are used to.

So now you say, "oh, it's OPTIONAL". Optional doesn't bail your ass out in the least. You said no monthly fees. Gabe said there will be montly fees. I said it would be like Fileplanet and sherlock shithead, Fileplanet's monthly fees are optional as well. Well goooooooollllly. Oh yeah, they don't need to money to pay for bandwidth costs. Why the hell didn't Gabe mention that?!?! Wow! They just want monthly fees for the hell of it, you stupid ignorant jackass! Maybe Gabe needs another Porshe. We'll call it the "Porshe for Gabe" monthly fee. So just admit it you damn donkey hemroid ! Admit what you said about monthly fees in the beginning and I'll forgive you for what you said, you monkey butt nugget!

Oh yeah, that's completely different than paying a monthly fee to play games over steam. Why would they talk about such things when NO ONE would stand for monthly steam fees!?!? Oh the humanity, you buttmunch. And I can't wait to pay Gabe $9.95 for one month so I can download all Valve's games too. Oh wait, maybe you've gotta keep payin 'em if you wanna keep playin 'em.

Did i not just say to read the entire article? Did i not? You're a fucking disgrace. The air you breathe is worth more than your fucking contribution to this thread. You are so fucking unbelievably stupid. I swear, when someone wants to be right, they'll ignore everything else you tell them but if they hear something that remotely reinforces their argument, eyes and ears suddenly open. But it's ok, just keep plugging your ears and going LA LA LA LA. It'll all just go away. Fucking worthless.

For that second type of user, it gets to be a trickier decision as we start going into our next generation of games, and it may or may not make sense for them to go with a subscription at some point.

Either way, it will be up to the individual gamer to decide which way they prefer to go.

So, yes, there will be subscription choices that a gamer could go with, and no, that won't eliminate the option of buying games the way people are used to.

Open your fucking eyes, pull your finger out of ass and your dick out of your own mouth, and read the goddamn article. Note that they're not talking about replacing the current method of purchasing games, nor is there any mention that they need some kind of subscription system to pay bandwidth costs -- because, if that was the case, they would do away with the current method and go entirely subscription-based. This is a possible lower-cost option they're talking about for those who don't want to buy the games outright. Now, kindly shut the fuck up, MMMOROPAOPAPSODPOAHARBINGEROFBULLSHIT.

I think everyone thinking that Valve will institute a monthly fee for Steam is an ABSOLUTE moron. Unless they FORCE you to buy a whole year, they will LOSE money on this. Pay 19.99 for one month of steam, get all the single player games, finish them, then cancel. No one things CS or DoD are worth monthly fees, not even Valve, so what the HELL are you all talking about?

Fricking morons.

I will admit that Valve may make this pay per month fee optional, just as Fileplanet has (or you can ask Gabe if he changed his mind, see interview). However, it is another step in a direction I personally don't want to go.

Plus, Valve has the beta tester carrot they can dangle in front of people to get them to pay, just as Fileplanet does. I will also submit, just as Fileplanet makes it less convenient to use their service without paying, Valve will eventually go in that direction as well.

And steam is ... convenient? Is it not? How much is that convenience worth to you? I really don't see this as such a huge leap of logic here.

No, according to many people it isn't.
It also isn't an option, whereas paying for the convenience of Fileplanet is. Doesn't that seem like a huge leap of logic to you?

If Valve had problems with all the bandwith they could do what every other developer/publisher does and let the community handle it, rather than charging people.

Because, I repeat, no game will be successful if they expect people to pay a monthly fee for it. Also consider the replay value of HL2 - mods. How many of us have fired up the single player in the past few months? No, we've fired up mods. If Valve were to charge a monthly fee for HL2, don't you think those modmakers would find their way to, say, UT2K4 or Doom 3, games just as many people have and don't need to pay to play? So people would buy two months of Steam, beat HL2, and have nothing left to go back to because the mod community would be ignoring it (moreso than they seem to be already.)

There's an intelligent conversation in here somewhere, just waiting to break out. But until then, you all suck! DoD sucks! Steam sucks! Whatever company 'random thought' works for sucks. SUCK! SUCK! SUCK!

Hell, for that matter, I suck! (No, not THAT kind of suck, sicko's!)

You think anybody out there is going to pay a monthly fee for a game they can complete in 48 hours? Do you think there's actually a large market out there for people who like Steam so much, they'll pay monthly for it?

They'll want to move the model away from "buy a game" to "buy the service". Already lots of companies are moving that way. Napster is a good example, don't buy the music, buy the service, and use it as much as you want. Will it work? Who knows. But it won't be in the format you're suggesting (that of "paying a monthly fee for a game you'll finish in 48 hours"). It will probably be something like "pay XX per month, and have access to these YY games". Of course, the technical problems would have to be overcome first.

Isn't this game just a half ass-ed rehash (meaning not complete) of an old game with newer graphics slapped on?

Everyone bitches about lack originality, yet no one sees a problem with this?

Oh and lack of originality is one thing but charging people for it in the form of a game is another. Enemy Territory anyone?
