BF2 Stats Updated

A forum post on Total Battlefield 2 (thanks Battlefield Nation) from EA's Ben Smith indicates that the lag before stats register for play on ranked server has been cut down to five minutes, and that they have caught up on all backlogged stats. There is no indication that any stats were lost (though I personally can find stats for only about three minutes out of the hours I've played on ranked servers). Here's the post:

Just FYI, we've been able to catch up on stats processing. It should now take no more than five minutes for score and rank updates to be reflected in each player's BFHQ!

You can't cancel out of the BF2 installation when it's trying to instal DX 9.0C?!?!? WTF... it stopped the ENTIRE installation and made me start from scratch. I already have 9.0c on my system, why reinstal the damn thing? Why cacel the ENTIRE installation... damn, that is annoying.

52. Best Server Browser EVAR Jun 27, 2005, 19:54 G-Man

Surprised no one else has brought this up... Unreal Tournament, it in my opinion, had the best server browser ever. That game had the best menu system ever too. It was kinda lame in the sense that it looked like windows, but it did the job VERY effectively.

I'm pretty bummed by how slow BF2's menu is to pop up as well. Why does it take 5-10 seconds to have the menu pop up after I push esc? (normally pushed by accident)

EA deciding on how you run a server you pay for? thats not gonna fly.

They already do for ranked servers. You have very little control in the settings AFAIK. But I agree that limiting admins from kicking/banning (as long as it's a server specific kick/ban and not broader) is lame and wouldn't happen.

As far as corrupt admins go, though, the best thing to do is to simply not play on their servers. You could try to complain to EA, but I bet that won't do you any good whatsoever.

Does anyone know the best way to complain about the buggy server browser? I thought about posting in the EA tech support, but I figured it would be a waste:
Problem: Yeah, your server browser blows! Who ever created that should be dragged out into the street and shot.

Yeah. That wouldn't work

I've seen this too and it really annoys me. I hope EA steps up and takes away the kicking power of admins on ranked servers only. If EA wants ranked servers to be a place where stats are tracked and gameplay is always consistent then they cannot allow server admins, many of whom are players, to just kick someone who they don't like. They may be paying for the server but on a ranked server this should not be allowed.

Yes, but AFAI can tell the Battle Recording is all done on the server -- all your client does is request that the server start a recording, which is then accessable to all. In this manner, a recording is a server log of all events on the map so you will be able to use cameras to view anything that happened at any time, even if you weren't there. A client-side recorder couldn't do this.

I don't know if the BR is generally snafu or just temporaraly - it looks like the system is getting lagged up because it's not handling multiple requests for recordings properly. I bet in game-testing they only bothered to make one client request per test server for recordings.

The last few days, i haven't had lag problems on ranked servers. However, i have had a problem on two seperate ranked servers so far: The admins are assholes. At this point i might as well quit when i start seeing it, because i've gone rounds where the top 5 and even top 10 people on our team (which happens to be the opposite of admins) are being kickbanned with no explanation.

Maybe they could make it so an admin could throw up a kick vote but he would only need 4 or 5 people to support him to kick someone.

You are confused, the ban was for servers who unlocked weapons on the free demo, not the full game. There is nothing to stop a server unlocking weapons for the FULL GAME, in fact it is one of the server settings listed on the server splash (but not in the server browser, grrrr.)

It'd be under the Community tab then. Lame that you can't check via the web though.

The question I have, however, is where the heck do you see your stats? Is there a website, or is it only accessible from inside the game?

It's in-game. There's a button in the menu somewhere that gets you there -- BFHQ *I think* (don't have a copy of the game to double-check against)..

Search around in the UI and you should find it.

41. My experiences Jun 27, 2005, 09:07 Zathrus

I've been playing exclusively on ranked servers this weekend. I only had horrible lag on one (which I believe was an Art of War server in Chicago, but I'm not positive). I'm pretty sure I played on at least one official EA server, but the rest were run by various other companies (the only one I remember from their server graphic is leetgamers.com). Honestly -- no problems at all. No lag, no rubber banding, no jerking.

Yes, on the one server I did experience it on it was unplayable -- and I allegedly had a 47 ping to it from the server browser. The other servers I generally had a 30-50 ping. I did not play on large (64 player) maps, but did play on both 16 and 32 player ones. The 64 maps were just always full.

If it matters - Ath64 3000+, nForce3 MB, 1 GB, GF6800GT, 1.5 MBps/128kbps ADSL. Using the drivers that came w/ the demo. Other system drivers and BIOS are probably quite "outdated" by now, but I long ago learned to not "fix" anything that's not causing problems.

The question I have, however, is where the heck do you see your stats? Is there a website, or is it only accessible from inside the game? I've googled for it, and looked at various websites and forum posts and nobody gives a URL.

The server browser is pretty crappy, but once I filtered down to ranked only servers it's been usable. It seems to have severe issues with large numbers of servers (handles ~400 ok, but not >2000; haven't tested in-between numbers obviously).

Yeah they can unlock all the weapons on a server, and be blacklisted/banned from being listed for a week by EA.

Sides you get your first unlock at Lance Corporal and apparently 1 unlock per rank after that.

YEs, can you say BATTLE RECORDER?

for something that was touted so much it's implementation is really shitty. I was under the impression that one would simply press a button and have the file saved to your HD. Nope, that makes too much sense. So you basically have to hope that the server op has it on and then, once recorded, you have to hurry and download it from a central location because servers can only hold 30 files at a time (according to the guide). Much like the weapon unlocks its far more convoluted/complex than it needs to be.

Oh, yes, the unlocks...

Server admins _can_ unlock all weapons on a server if they want, that's what the setting is there for. I haven't found many that do yet.

YEs, can you say BATTLE RECORDER?

For all our sakes - if you are a player, NEVER SWITCH ON BATTLE RECORDER. If you are a server admin, BAN IT FROM YOUR SERVER. Battle Recorder is a laggy servant of TEH DEVIL.

The whole ranked server unlock weapons thing is well. stupid. Just stupid. You have a pretty good game, and then some bozo comes up with these types of goofball ideas to kill everything.

The server list feature in these games needs to abide by one rule: KISS Keep it simple stupid.
