Ya know, people keep mentioning the holiness of Planescape. So a few months ago, I finally tracked down a copy, and bought it. I was just starting to get into it, but some other game must have distracted me, as I didn't end up playing it much at all. But ya know, now I think I'll dig out those disks and give it another whirl. I have not heard one bad thing about the game, so it must be good, eh?

Hm, it's $30 online at Amazon and BestBuy, but EB is still holding out at $40. It may depend on your local retailer.
You'll probably see it for $20-25 before too long anyway.

It already is:
http://magestrix.com/K2End/
Knights of the Old Republic 2, we feel, is a fantastic game. It's also undoubtedly a wounded game: a lonely game, a scarred game that knows it's incomplete as it is but just can't bear to admit it to itself. It's okay, KOTOR2. We're here for you. Shhhh. We're here. If you're here, you probably know that KOTOR2 had a lot of cut content, including some very important scenes near the end. If you didn't know: KOTOR2 had a lot of cut content, including some very important scenes near the end. You can read a lot of it and listen to some sound clips here.
We're adding back in as much of the cut content as is possible. We are dedicated to forming a coherent story out of these sound clips and occasionally-ambiguous action descriptions, so unfortunately, we cannot include every single cool thing that was cut. But, we will still have plenty of coolness, including:
The long-lost HK Droid Factory! (not the same as the Droid Planet M4-78) Several ways to murder Visas! A whole new group of people who want to kill you! Multiple endings! (no, really, actual endings) Various ways to be responsible for the deaths of all your party members!

Thanks cappy as that really does help but the game into perspective, especially after playing Kotor2 and all the plot/story holes it had.
Right now it's still selling for 39 bucks but gonna wait a bit for it to at least drop to 29.

Sad? I'd say it's quite admirable, actually Admirable that fans are dedicated enough to make such a patch. Sad that the publisher/developer is not doig their job. And even more sad if this becomes an expectation/trend by developers of their fan base.

I found Vampire to be a great game. Yeah, the ending was ruthless on people who didn't focus on ranged weapons. But the ride to get there was extremely fun. It's definately worth picking up if you're an RPG fan.

get kotor if dont have.worth ur time, even kotor II better than this troika garbage.....err....ya it 's MY opinion. Well your opinion sucks. KotOR was a crappy RPG and a great game.
And please do not bring Planescape into this, no other RPG has or will ever compare to its glory. Bow to the Nameless One, bow down.

I'd put it somewhere between KOTOR and KOTOR2 (the former being polished and the latter having more potential but not quite fulfilling it).
Voice-acting and music in Vampire were superb. And, like the KOTOR games or even Planescape Torment, the first 3/4 of the game was more exploration, quests, and getting into the game world, but the final 1/4 was combat-heavy.
In the case of Vampire, game balance in certain aspects was not as well done. What people discovered was that melee and sword combat was extremely more useful and lethal in the first 3/4 of the game but that in certain key instances, you really needed ranged-weapons combat in the latter 1/4 of the game.
I didn't encounter the myriad bugs that many users experienced in the unpatched version I played after its release (then again, I've just gotten through uninstalling Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay due to the crash bugs I was experiencing in that game - maybe I'll try it again some day on another machine, as it's garnered some really favorable reviews).
I personally loved the game and rank it with Planescape, KOTOR, Fallout, Fallout2, and Max Payne2 as a game with atmosphere that I enjoy replaying. I'd probably add KOTOR2 to that list if/when the unofficial restoration project restores some of the unfinished content in the game.
As far as punishing you, even Planescape and the Fallout games did that (Planescape, for example, by killing Trias when you first encounter him - an option in the dialogue, while Fallout handled things I think a little more elegantly, with epilogues showing the impact of your decisions and actions). The game pretty much hammered into you throughout that factions, alliances, betrayals, and subterfufe are a major focal point and that you as a newbie are pretty much a pawn and have to make your best choices. The five or so (I think) endings reflect the choices you made.
The degree of "unfinished" is not glaringly noticeable as what you see in KOTOR2 (and even many players apparently didn't realize how unfinished KOTOR2 was). What I tended to notice in Vampire was that the earlier parts of the game had more depth than the final parts (as in more quests, longer quests, more exploration). You tended to spend about as much time in the later parts, but as I said the fewer quests was made up for by more combat.
It's really a matter of taste and what sort of games you like. I'd say read some of the reviews and visit any of the message boards on the game - the reviews tended to be pretty consistent in evaluating it.

Sad that the gamers themselves are supporting a game themselves. Shame on the publisher and the industry for having things degenerate like this. The game is way unfinished and highly unpolished and a previous poster said it right. At the end it's very combat heavy and if up to that point you were playing a more "presuasion" type character who is strong on "mind" stuff you will really suffer at the end with all the fighting. Really lame.

If you are looking at it for the combat aspects, don't.
If you are looking at it for the RPG aspects, please do. It's a lot like any other Troika game... it's a crappy game but a great RPG.

While I understand some people may not like the game, if your an old World of Darkness or specificly Vampire: the Masquerade PnP player/ST, this is a very accurate representation and a GREAT game. Just be sure to patch it with either the official patch or this new unnoficial ones.
ALso has great replay value with 5 endings and each clan having different possibilities of gameplay. DEFINATELY worth $20.
For support, help with a particular quest or side-quest (and there are tuns of them), visit the vampire vault boards. They are semi-active and can help a lot

Not worth purchasing, unless you can get it for $20.
I really tried to like the game and actually did get into it a bit for awhile, but there were just too many bad parts, unfinnished/polished parts and how one of the endings basically punished you for one style of gameplay it pretty much left a bitter taste in my mouth where I wouldn't even replay it with a new character.
It got close to being good, but just didn't make it.
