Hope the demo still lets you play if you don't have a supported card. My buddy wants to run it with a Geforce Ti4600. His other specs are up to the task. Hoping he can run it on low.

Supposedly, Fileplanet, X-Fire, and Yahoo are all banned from redistributing the demo for 24 hours.

Should be OK, you're going to have some serious load times with only 512MB RAM. I just upped mine to 2GB because I hear even 1GB has a lot of swapping problems.
This is a common misconception. Doesn't matter how much RAM you have if your HD is lacking the speed for a swap file and access time is bogged down.
As sweet at is would be, they don't program games to run completly in a swap file. A lot of HD accesses are still required.

the demo readme seems to suggest geforce4s aren't supported. unless i can't read. which is possible i guess.

yeah, the video card is the main bottleneck now. The only thing is that I'd rather buy a PCI Express (or variant) card at this point but that entails a new mobo, new CPU, new memory most likely etc etc

Malkovich,
I can "beat" that one easily:
Athlon XP1800+ GeForce4 Ti4200 1GB RAM (since yesterday - 512MB cost only $39 these days)
So yeah... somehow I feel that my download (50% done @ 55kb/s) might be in vain...

At the risk of outing myself as a non-geek... wtf is a sha1 hash?
It's like an MD5 hash, but stronger. Mostly used in LDAP.
If you don't know what an MD5 hash is, it's a fingerprint that lets you check if a file has been altered from it's original. If you run md5sum on a file, you get a hash back, and if it matches what everyone else's is, then you know it's not corrupted and/or hasn't been tampered with (had a virus added, etc.)

BitTorrent says the SHA1 hash for Battlefield_2_Demo_GC.zip is 3A57AE2537341AAD087FD0EDF4C3616DE9AA02BE.
This is the Pirate Bay torrent, so everyone knows.
The filerush torrent (Battlefield_2_Demo.exe) SHA1 hash is: CEE0722EC55D9BB9E04FB5E139D7E50ABE02E9E5
The different is probably because the pirate bay one is zipped. Not a concern.

So, uhm, I haven't been following the game that much - guess someone in here should have an idea of the minimum system specs?
Here's my ultra cool system...any idea how it'll play?
Athlon XP 2800+ 520MB high end RAM ATI Radeon 9600 PRO Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
yeah...it's a POS - just waiting to do a complete overhaul at some point...probably right before Quake 4 comes out I think
