I originally said go find the Controls file and edit there, but everyone just bitched and bitched. Then someone hand held everyone and told them EXACTLY how to do it. I did it in-game and it took less than 4 minutes. No longer than anyother game. sheesh. People act like they have never setup a game before.
First of all, you should never have to go to config files. Yes, bluesnews players can do it, can the average joe buying a PC game? Do they even know what a config file is? Telling people to go to the config files is a workaround for a bug, nothing more.
Secondly, 4 minutes is a lot. It's still asinine that I can't change an infantry button for forward because it conflicts with a helicopter button for accelerate. Will the two ever be conflicted in-game? No. It's asinine that you have to clear from one place in order to set from another, it should clear automatically, or at least have a "clear all" button. It's asinine that the mouse keeps resetting to the center of the screen. And it's asinine that the clear button is escape, which is also the button to leave without saving changes.
Stop making excuses for it. It's very poorly implemented. Changing the config should be the most user-friendly part of a game. Going from WASD to ESDF shouldn't take 4 minutes. It shouldn't take a single minute.

I have to agree ... I'm impresssed with the demo as well. Playing on a p4 3.2@3.8 with an x800xt at 1024x768 everything maxed out plus 4xx fsaa .....no stuttering no bugs just great action.

I particularly enjoyed the crap that space captain and xXBatmanXx where spouting...but the funniest thing must have been when xXBatmanXx started by flaming any and all who had problems with the demo...and then he had problems himself! Oh, the irony
You must have missed the part where I said it ran great. It messed up when I was playing with all of the settings. Couldn't get it to work smooth again, so I did an uninstall and re-install.
Now runs just as smooth as the first time around.
BONG.
(and it is funny that everyone was complaining, and then I said play with sound and graphical settings, and amazingly....people starting saying it worked! wow. Imagine that!)
Honestly. I don't understand the fuss about redefining keys. I originally said go find the Controls file and edit there, but everyone just bitched and bitched. Then someone hand held everyone and told them EXACTLY how to do it. I did it in-game and it took less than 4 minutes. No longer than anyother game. sheesh. Fileplanet shows they will host it at 1pm, but I'm showing 1:52, EST. Guess they don't pull the time from your machine to create the webpage. Anyone have any idea what timezone they are talking about when they say '1pm'?

The list of cool games coming up for the PC has me kind of stoked too...some cool shit coming up I'd add Serious Sam 2 on there, aswell.
Haven't had time to play the demo myself though, what with work/study and GTA San Andreas, but after I install it tonight, I'll add my "how my p4 2.6, 1 gig, 9800pro, fared with the demo" bit to the board. I just ain't looking forward to redefining my keys after what ppl posted
Gotta say that I do like Blue's when all the little tips&tricks come out of the woodwork to help solve little niggles like that, though!

After giving this a bit of play time, I can't quite figure out what all the people previewing it were getting so excited about, the gameplay seems pretty much the same as the original to me. Infantry combat still feels as disconnected as ever.
Think I'll leave this one for a few patches and see if it matures.

I wish it was easier to get a guy kicked. I was on a 64 player server, and a guy was spawn-tking. Not only that, when aircraft appeared he'd quickly C4 them. In the 64 player game, 42 people needed to vote kick him. We were consistently getting about 15-22. One side didn't really care, and the side being TKed had plenty of people not even realizing what was happening (I mean, the demo had been out all of two hours then.)
If you get the majority, or even a third, of your own team voting to kick you, you should be gone. The other team shouldn't matter.

All game companies are going to make console games first. I've heard it all before. Anyone remember 3DO, the console that was supposed to kill pc gaming forever? The console didn't really last long, they started making pc titles and eventually went bankrupt.
Each time a new console is released (and we are coming around to that time again) I keep hearing this "pc gaming is dead" nonsense.

12minute time limit hack |
Jun 11, 2005, 10:41 |
hippieschuh |

@server admins, here is a way to disable the stupid 12min limit:
This is a procedure as to how to get rid of the timer for server side configuration. I'm pretty sure we aren't breaking any laws here considering how all the stuff there was basically opened for configuration.
Open up the file gpm_cq.py with notepad, it's under Battlefield 2 Standalone Demo Server\mods\bf2\python\game\gamemodes
Locate the line
host.registerHandler('TimeLimitReached', onTimeLimitReached, 1)
Place a # in front of it so it appears like
#host.registerHandler('TimeLimitReached', onTimeLimitReached, 1)
This will make the 12 min timer still appear but once it hits 0:00 the clock will disappear and you will be able to play until the tickets expire.
Please note: This is not my work, I am just the messenger boy.

" There are shit faces still playing the shareware version of quake." Speaking of which, and somewhat off topic, I would like to join this legion of shit faces and run the shareware version of Quake. Trouble is when I start the exe the splash will pop up for a second and then quit. I try it direct from a DOS promt and get some kind of general protection fault. I've tried the compatibility modes and other things with no luck. Anyone had this problem before and fixed it?
