Guild Wars Patch, Bans

These Guild Wars Game Update Notes outline the new update to ArenaNet's MMORPG. The update implements several changes intended to remove the need for "farming" to progress in the game, while also making it easier to identify players using cheats, bots, and hacks. On a related note, they also announce the banning of over 100 user accounts for using bots to farm. The update outlines extensive balance changes and tweaks, and promises more to come:

We know that some players currently engage in repetitive farming activities for the primary purpose of unlocking skills and items for PvP. Rather than preserving the effectiveness of farming for this purpose, it is our intention to address the larger issue of the need for farming by assessing how players acquire and unlock items, runes, and skills, and then by taking steps to ensure that players can acquire and unlock these things through normal gameplay. We believe that the most effective way to play the game should also be the most fun way to play the game. You can expect to see the first meaningful changes towards this goal next week.

Yeah if you are a cheap ass! Sorry I like a real community not 9 year olds that are playing only because little Timmy got it for his birthday.

using a monthly subscription cost that equals the price of joining NETFLIX as an excuse to make up for lack of gaming time or the ability to get anywhere in complicated games IS THE WIN!

Once again proving exactly why i don't like you. I've played just about every MMO to be released in the last 4 years and even spent quite a bit of time in some of them (L2, WoW, GW, SWG, RO, etc), and let me tell you, a monthly fee never seemed to deter the immature idiots from any of those games. Your response is typical FUD bullshit that GW haters love to throw around as an excuse to why Game Of The Moment X (usually WoW) is better. Just for the record, i love "complicated games" too, as i thoroughly enjoyed the Fallout series and actually played Wizardry 6 and 7 all the way to the end -- and no MMO is anywhere near as "complicated" (i think the word you wanted was 'complex' btw) as those games.

Case in point, a monthly fee obviously didn't stop you from playing!

Well, GW IS an extremely nice game IF you can get a nice group of people together. The 1st person I grouped with told me to wait, knelt in front of me (so his face was hanging on my crotch and he kept going: LOL LOL, see this?

That's why I play with henchmen. I'll usually grab a healer, a fighter, and a mage, and set out for a good 2 hour journey. Even though they're not real people, and the AI isn't perfect, I manage the team just fine. And you don't have to deal with any morons.

Well to start Ive played almost all of the mmorpgs, I wouldnt mind paying for GW because its better than most mmorpgs atm.
#1 Story , it has a story that gets you involved in it
#2 Gameplay, It has the gameplay in spades :probl cause it was designed by Ex Blizzard employees: who worked on Diablo
#3 Graphics, IMO graphic arent primary but GW graphics put most mmorpgs to shame "cept for EQ2"
#4 Lag free, Ive not experienced any lag what so ever
#5 Price, Last but not least is price, why pay for it when you dont have to, Ive got EQ2,WOW,MatrixOnline,COH, even Eve online, while they all are strong titles GW is strong too and its way different than just a level treadmill, I mean they really mean it , ITS ABOUT THE SKILLS and how and when to use them that counts.

Well I think the next any only other mmorpg im waiting on is D&D online or Conan other than that I'll never go back to EQ2 or WOW, not cause of the price point but because GW is a better game than the 2 of them combined.

Whatever, dude, it's your $180. I'll go buy 3-4 more games w/ that money while you're playing the same ole' thing.

Have fun!

(BTW, since you're just throwing money around, can you send me some? I mean, clearly it's not a big deal to such a rich guy like you, and I'll use it to buy more games.

Thanks!)

Mistress Lula (Me/Ne --> very nice combo :))

You know, I have seriously thought about making a character with that combo. I think I will do that tonight. Was not sure whether I would do a Me/Ne or a Mo/Ne combo.

Yay...a GW vs MMORPG's battle!
Game on Biatch! or something...

Not a good start. And reading stories on the SomethingAwful forums didn't encourage me either
Now I'm in a really nice guild, met some really nice people and having a hell of a time.

Mistress Lula (Me/Ne --> very nice combo :))
Mistress Sorrow (Mo/Wa --> for soloing mostly)

It's even cooler not to be paying $15 a month...and I haven't hit any "invisible walls" yet...but hey, if you want to pay an extra $180 a year for an online game, knock yourself out!

I know that I'm enjoying a game when my every waking minute i'm thinking about when I'm going to get to play it next, and forming strategies when i'm supposed to be doing other things (like work for instance)

Hi .... my name is Gandhi (Tr Gandhi in GW), and I am a Guildaholic.

I spend my days thinking about GW, when I am not playing it. I spend most of my time at work looking at area maps and quests instead of working.

I spend my time in classes looking at various skills combos my character have to beat the charr, instead of listening to the professor drone on and on.

The first thing I do when I wake up instead of looking at my beautiful wife is to check to see if there were any in-game updates. The last thing I do before I go to sleep instead of kissing my beautiful wife is to relive in my mind the blood thirsty raids quests I just finished playing.

My name is Gandhi (Tr Gandhi in GW) and I am a Guildaholic.

PS - please make sure my wife does not see this

If you like playing PvP where all classes are actually balanced and skill is needed then GW is for you.

To echo Geese's comments While PvP is there, it's by no means required to play...

I wanted to play WOW, but I didn't want to play $15 a month...and I've had a blast w/ GW. We've got about 6-8 people here on Blue's that play, and it's a good community...

In 3 weeks time, I think I've only covered about 1/3 to 1/4 of the total places you can travel to, and two new zones are being added this summer for free...
