10. Re: PS3 Demos Fake May 28, 2005, 15:47 aldo_14

if they're not fakes then computers can play those games now.. where as they are claiming that both the xbox and ps3 will be able to play them maybe 1 year from now. Question is ..will any of these games make it to a pc in the future??

Well, they (PCs) probably can play them now, in terms of having the hardware. It'd just cost you a big wodge of money, and you'd need to overcome the handicap of (for example) having a game written for a single core, single card system running on your system with, say, multiple GPUs and CPUs (and probably the devkits don't use a full windows or Linus Os but some cutdown version approximating that on the actual console).

I wouldn't say it was impossible for a Pc to have, say, graphics of the Killzone demo (IMO that was pre-rendedered anyways); but it would be financially infeasible.

My expectation would be to see more Xbox360 than Ps3 games make it onto PC, though. I think anything built upon the Unreal3 engine will make it onto all 3 formats (PC, X360, PS3) in particular, as I imagine they'll take steps to make that engine as portable as possible (to make more money).

My bet is that the PS3 stuff was pre-rendered .. except the duck and unreal 3 stuff.

can't wait to see more of that off-road racing game with mud.

My understanding though, is that those are what the demos were running on, so the final hardware could potentially beat what was shown.

Possible. But read what Burkett said in the article closely:

From the article:
"Burkett did concede that nVidia had been working with other chips similar in power to RSX and therefore the final PS3 hardware may be able to achieve the sort of results seen at the event."

Now, it's not a direct quote, so who knows...but that sounds fishy to me. And, to be honest, it's Sony's M/O to show one thing and deliver another. But the article is a bit...severe.

He never said that it would be $300. He said that it would be 'in the neighborhood' of $300. That could mean closer to $400.

I tend to think that means $300-$349.

I agree. Gamesradar proved nothing. Fake, to me, means pre-rendered. If those were running in real time they aren't fake. Misleading, sure, as it was a simple rendered scene which will look much better than gameplay, and because it wasn't on actual PS3 hardware, but not fake unless prerendered.

5. PS3 Demos Fake May 28, 2005, 13:04 Smoove

I'm somewhat dissappointed with Gamesradar on this one. As Paranoid said, the PS3 was using dual 6800s. My understanding though, is that those are what the demos were running on, so the final hardware could potentially beat what was shown. To say the demos are fake because the GPU isn't finished is jumping to a conclusion. No, they're not running on final hardware, but that doesn't mean they weren't actually running on hardware comparable to (or more likely, less than) the final hardware.

4. PS3 & X-Box 360 May 28, 2005, 12:43 Paranoid Jack

I doubt either unit was finalized enough to the point that either company was using a finished product on the E3 floor. I would think if either... MS was using the only thing close to a finished product. Some of the X-Box units may have been pro-to-types but most where the developers-kit. Which I have read was a dual G5 processor and some video card configuration that will closely resemble the final product in power. I think it's an ATI chipset, correct? Though I must admit I haven't been following that closely.

As for the PS3, I doubt they have much more then a working pro-to-type. It was widely know the GPU was just dual 6800s running in SLI mode which according to Nvidia will only be half the power of the next gen card/chipset which is not finished and meant to be used in the PS3.

On the subject of the price-point for the X-Box 360. I was also hoping the price would be set at $360 but $300 is all the better. It's just that $360 would have been a cool marketing gimmick. But we just don't know at this point. They may decide to sell it at a much higher price come the release date which is not yet set in stone.

That being said and knowing that 6 of the "Top 10" selling games in 2004 where on X-Box. I will most likely buy the 360. And doubt I will ever buy a PS.

I haven't bought a console since Nintendo 64. And since I am a hard-core PC gamer I feel I haven't missed much. Maybe a half dozen games or so I would have attempted to enjoy but ultimately become frustrated with the stupid controlers.

Besides it's not as if the PC crowd has been lacking any good games to play. And that bringes me to another point. If the 360s best release day games are already out (or soon to be released) on PC (which is something I doubt)... why buy a 360?

Looks as if Biowares & Bethesda will both have top knotch RPGs available for the PC this years end. Though I think one reason Biowares has yet to release any info about thier two titles due out this year is the simple fact that MS pays boat loads of money to have an X-Box exclusive game. Even if it's only for a six month period.

It's going to be another exciting year in gaming.

Pathetic, really pathetic, Microsoft didn't do much better, though. At least their hardware is finished.

I'm disappointed. They should charge $360!
