Call of Duty (2) and Quake 4 the Holidays

Activision's Q4 and Fiscal 2005 Year End Results (thanks Frans) are online, revealing "Record Q4 and Fiscal 2005 Year End Results." The story mentions a conference call to discuss the news, and the results of that call are reflected in Activision Earnings Way Up, Hot Titles Soon on IGN, revealing an apparent fiscal third quarter 2006/calendar fourth quarter 2005 release date for Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2:

Though the company's strong performance is encouraging, perhaps most exciting for gamers is news that many of Activision's most-anticipated titles will arrive in time for the holidays this year. In a conference call with investors today, Activision Publishing president and CEO Ron Doornink revealed that new entries in the Tony Hawk, Call of Duty, X-Men Legends, True Crime, Quake, and Shrek franchises would appear in the company's third quarter -- i.e., October through December 2005.

I loved q3a, i played that game more than any others...my problem is doom3 was really, really mediocre. Sp was typical, but the multiplayer is just plain impractical.

Everything I've seen of q4 so far points to doom3 but instead of doom its quake. You really think we'll be able to get 32player servers using quake 4 ? I sure hope so ! I want kick-ass multiplayer. I hate being a doubter, but so far the doom3 engine has not been multiplayer friendly.

I was just let down by doom3, is all. Maybe id can change my mind by releaseing a point release or two sometime this summer

I'm looking forward to Quake 4, but Raven's games have been mostly mediocre since Heretic II.

Funny thing is. If you do happen to make an original and innovative game. Even if it's not so original but still sells well. Guess what you will be making next.... that's right, a sequel.

Not a single NEW game idea in the bunch - those are all sequels (or sequels to sequels to sequels...).

It's like Craptivision, Electronic Farts, and all the rest of them are terrified to take a chance on anything new. And the rare times they do release a "new" game, it's well within genre limits: WWII, driving game, etc.

Innovation is the last hope for the indie developer, and vice versa. They are the only ones who can take the risk. What was the last innovative game idea to get produced by a big company? "City of Heroes"?

...and even thought I'm getting rather tired of WWII shooters, Call of Duty 2 is looking really nice. VERY realistic graphics.

Knock it all you want, I for one am REALLY excited for Q4.

Raven is the r0xx0r. Q4 is high on my list too. Although not quite as high as Fear and the Farcry expansion (any news on that been released anywhere yet?)
