Source Map Plans

A Steam Update (thanks Voodoo Extreme) offers some advance strategy tips on an upcoming Counter-Strike: Source map as well as word to expect a new Half-Life 2 deathmatch map on Monday:

This week we'd like to give everyone some information on our new Counter-Strike: Source map that we've been working on, as well as a new Half-Life 2: Deathmatch map we'll be releasing next week.

It is a bit daunting to learn a new Counter-Strike map right as it's released, so we've gone through de_port and tried to give people an idea of what our design intentions were. Click here to get to a page that outlines six different strategies to try once the map is available. We're still shooting for release of de_port (along with a redone de_inferno) in a couple of weeks. Next week's Steam news will include some pictures showing off what de_inferno looked like as it was being built from scratch.

We'll be releasing a new Half-Life 2: Deathmatch map this coming Monday the 25th. This new Valve created map is called dm_runoff and was inspired by a Half-Life 1 favorite, Crossfire.

es was the maps with drivable stuff, like that huge ass map where people rode around on train carts?

es was escape. The terrorists would spawn without weapons and would make have to get to an armory to get equipped and then would try to get to an extraction point. Meanwhile the CTs were there to stop them.

I hope they put those game modes back in as well. I think though the original CS team isn't working on CS: Source (maybe CS2? *cross fingers*) since I doubt they would have their mod butchered up like that if it was up to them.

I for one liked the AS_ game mode better when the VIP only had a knife. Getting a kill with a VIP then would be proving REAL skill, heh. Ah, the good old days of as_tundra..

As for the ES_ they stopped supporting that since it was unpopular, no? I played since beta 2 and I totally missed out on the ES_ maps until I became a server admin in 1.1 .. they were just that unpopular.

Being the underdog was awesome. I don't remember when they removed that gametype, think it was beta 7, but it was great while it lasted. es_frantic was cool, that's the tran station level if I remember correctly...I'd kill to see either AS or ES back in CS.

I actually liked playing as the VIP. It made killing people all the more empowering.

So game players are so stupid now that they need everything laid out for them before the thing is released?

That's like saying: we just released Zork 2, and we know you gamers always feel a little intimidated when we release a new Zork game, so here are some walkthroughs to get you started.

Are there any AS maps in CS:S? I thought most servers didnt carry them because people arses bitch about being the VIP? Or are they converting them to de_s and cs_ (hostage) maps?
