This is the best Steam update ever! I mean they didn't release any CS:S related fix in 2 weeks and now they come here with a surprise update which fixes two exploits I never even heard of before.

That's fantastic, CS:S is now so much more playable than before this update.

Please keep up that excellent work, valve and don't listen to those guys telling you all the time that you should release more content and fix the netcode and hitbox bugs or finally enable VAC for source servers. Ignore those people because they don't know what they are talking about.

thanks valve

It would help if they actually turned cheat detection ON. It's apparently on their "to-do" list.. probably somewhere after the group seppuku.

Sincerely,
Jeremy Dunn

gee I thought Steam was supposed to stop all that?
No, Steam just stops legitimate customers from being able to play the game they paid for every time Valve screws up the network. It also keep players from obtaining and installing things like the dedicated server or the game editing tools without installing Steam, and it forces server admins to update the version of the game running on their servers whether they like the changes or not.

If you want to cheat and hack though, Steam can't stop you from that.

Wow, maybe instead of fixing these bugs they should release more maps, new models, and bring us Day of Defeat:Source.. geez!!!
Or maybe both...?

After spending some time in CS:S I would have to say that aim bots aren't a real problem BUT, wall hacks and radar hacks ARE.
The number of times I was killed by players comming around the corners already facing my position when there is 4 or 5 other positions I could have been in was astronomical.
I randomly selected the positions to be in and low and behold they come around the corner facing me and killing me the moment they have line of sight.
No one is that lucky to have guessed correctly that often.
I also notice that it was the same certain players who did this time and time again.
This was also acros a wide variety of servers.
I do FAR better on lan than internet.

OTOH I think he was talking about CS:S.
Ah, you're probably right. Might be more cheating going around there. But I wouldn't know much about that since I only played CS:S like once, and god did I suck at that

I never really noticed anyone I thought were cheating. But then again, I usually come out at the top when I play HL2DM, and people seldom call me a cheater for that matter...

Exactly, winning at HL2DM is down to how good your internet connection is, not cheats. OTOH I think he was talking about CS:S.

Everyone freaking cheats. It's like the very second I see someone else, headshot.
I really don't suck that bad, really,

If I were to take a guess is that WOW runs the world from thier server, while HL2 maps run locally on your pc.

Come back in ten years

Take another guess, because that one doesn't make a lot of sense. The models and textures and everything else still has to be available locally, streaming that kind of data over the net is really not viable at this point.

Its simple, the Source engine still gets its roots from Quake. While it has a whole lot of nice new gimmicks ( Skyboxs, Face poser, physics, shaders ) the actually levels are still bsp based.

Building a map for WoW would only consist of laying down a high map and placing the building models onto it. Much like the editor for Morrowind. Where Half-life 2 requires you to hand make the buildings out of brushes taking up more memory.

What it comes down too is the two engines are completely different from each other but I know what your getting at, I was hugely disappointed with the way Half-life 2 handles its levels. 40 - 45 minutes to compile a tiny map ( from today’s standards ), gees this isn't 1999 anymore, no one wants to wait that long to compile a map.

steam its the quintessential exploit. And the only fix is located in the Add or Remove Programs of the Control panel.

I can't wait for a real eugenics movement, i'm bored by short people.

I just started playing WoW. Why is it that this game has such amazingly huge environments with no loading screens and halflife 2 has painfully long ones like every 10 minutes?
