Source SDK Update

Steam News has news that an updated version of the Source SDK for mod authors is now available through the broadband content delivery system. The new version adds simple bot sample code, source files for six Half-Life 2 single player maps, an interface plug-in to add bots to mods, and more. Thanks Frans.

For those who don't know, the "Slam" was like a satchel charge in the Alpha (Drop a slam, wait for someone to get near it and hit the detonate button)

I hope we'll see those laser trip mines return as well, and the crowbar, and a Gordon model.. Still, this is gonna be awesome.

steam is driving me nuts, im having real trouble seeing anybody on my friends list and connecting to a deathmatch or even CS match is a small nightmare.

I pull up the server list and it populates about 10 or so, then when i try to join it only gives me the server info but the connect button doesent work! dammit!

Other times i get HL2 is unavailable when i try and load it!!???

Yes you can all thank me.

Yesterday I posted a blistering message at Verc about how 2 months later people are groping in the dark to find out how things work in HL2. The idea that Valve somehow "lost" something by allowing as to look at the single player maps was stupid. Valve made their millions already, what do they care? I said forcing the mod community to make decompilers to figure things out was killing the mod community.

Look around. ModDB seems dead to what it was a few years ago. They have news for about 10, maybe, real mods for HL2. The forums postings at Verc, Planet Half Life, ModDb and a couple of other HL2 mod places have barely any activity at all. The activity is the same 10 people talking to each other.

Today, Valve releases the source files for 6 half life 2 maps.

Some people think I talk to much. Do you see why now? It gets results.

I wonder if they'll port the bot code (from CS:S) to HL2: Deathmatch and to DOD:S?

That'd be cool...

Valve also made good on their weekly update.
Wednesday, January 19th 2005

Last week marked the end of the Half-Life 2: Deathmatch level design
contest. We received over 200 submissions, and we're going through and
playtesting each one. There are a number of great maps in here, and
we're already having trouble picking the clear winners. The release of
the winning maps will coincide with a release of Half-Life 2:
Deathmatch, which will include two new weapons: the Slam and
Stunstick.

Also of note for level designers and Mod builders: there will be an
update to the Half-Life SDK this week which most notably will include
source files for six Half-Life 2 maps.

Lastly, work on Dave Riller's new map cs_compound continues, along
with the other projects we're working on here at Valve. We'll have an
update on the map and our other projects next month.

For those who don't know, the "Slam" was like a satchel charge in the Alpha (Drop a slam, wait for someone to get near it and hit the detonate button)

Sincerely,
Jeremy Dunn
