Ooohh hell yeah that it'll be put down. And oooohh hell yeah that a lawyer is laughing and waiting till it's 99% done. Lord of the Rings mod for Morrowind.. anyone?
http://www.memod.co.uk/index.htm
Good thing they haven't give up though. They're editing all they've done now.. and changed the title to Phoenix, if I'm correct. (good name aye? From the ashes of a cancelled mod rises another one)

Um, is this the Jurassic Park multiplayer mod that DOESNT involve dinosaurs? I mean cmon, I wanna play a single player version with Dinosaurs running loose. Looks like only that X-Isle will deliver well once it's released unless these guys can pump out a single player before them.
An X-Isle Preview Alpha Version is out since 24th December. You can find it on http://www.xisle.de in the secound news. There are many mirrors...
english website will come very soon and we're working on a patch! This comment was edited on Jan 2, 11:42. |

Triassic Park would sound better then "Cretaceous Park" but overall that's a good way around it. You can't copyright dinosaurs.

Actually if Universal did come down on them, it would be the easiest thing to turn around. All you have to do is call it "Cretaceous Park" or some other obviously ripped off, albeit cheesy name, remove the copyrighted logos and such and voila! Release it. I mean, can Universal copyright dinos?

Wasn't there a Star Wars mod for Battlefield 1942 that didn't have any problems UNTIL Star Wars Battlegrounds was about to come out?
There was also an X-Men mod for, I think, Quake that ended up getting adopted and released as an official (bad) game.
I'd assume they've released the MP demo because they're just bursting to show the world what they've done so far. It must be hard to work in isolation, not knowing if it's going to be worth it when it's finished.

The Jurassic Park IP is not exactly a gem either. It seems it would make more sense to make a Jurassic Park inspired mod forgoing the whole cease and desist completely.
Sort of like the Alien Swarm UT2k4 mod has a lot of stuff inspired by the movie aliens (the parasites) without infringing on it.

Ah, the muddy waters of protecting intellectual property, It's not only about whether or not they make money on the mod, its about possible loss of $$ to Universal. (boo-hoo :/)
Example: Universal decides to make a Jurassic Park 4 movie and release a (more than likely crappy) game to go with it. Then Universal has to deal with the fact that there is a free version of a Jurassic Park game on the net which features their own characters while they are charging $49 for their (shoddy, movie license exploiting) game. So they stand to lose money from people who decide to get the free mod instead of buying their game, almost as if they're competing against themselves.

Well, considering the "Jurassic Park Mod" is being developed in/ on foriegn territory. I think US domestic attorneys/ Laws can make as much noise as they'd like but it wouldn't stop anything.
International borders have a different policy. I see plenty of titles in foriegn countries in distribution, over the net for sale, and nothings haulted those.
I'm not a betting man on wacky things such as this, but I can foresee this Mod seeing the light of day.

Not to be inflammatory, but the RIAA turned a twelve year old girl upside down and shook her until her lunch money fell out because she downloaded mp3's.
And I don't think she was making a profit off of that music

I'd love to see a Jurassic Park single player mod. That would be sweet and i'd download it in a second.
Doesn't matter if you're making money on it. They'll still shut you down.
Seriously? I always throught it was only illegal if done for profit.

Most likely. And yes, I actually used to own Trespasser. Heehee. Sure it was quite a crazy game and ahead of it's time though I had a blast with it since I had PATIENCE. The stuff I did with the physics were memorable in my first physics gaming age. If they remade Trespasser or did a sequel or some sort, they should definitely use the Far Cry engine. I don't know if they should bring back the robotic arm thing though. Was fun for experimenting though that's about it.

Did they pay licensing fees for the Jurassic Park name to put out a free mod?
Nothing on the website seems to indicate that... I'm betting 10 dollars they'll get the cease & desist letter from Universal in 3 months, any other takers?

Well it is only alpha, I would say there is a good chance dinosaurs will come later (otherwise why on earth is it s Jurassic Park mod?) Additionally most mods aren't worth downloading in the alpha phase.
