And this is more than a week after the orignal post. Did anyone actually successfully download this?

I got the same thing last Thursday...

Why they don't want people to mirror it is beyond me...

And the page is now saying:

"Unfortunately, we are experiencing a high volume of downloads now and your information has not be collected. Please try back another time."

And this is more than a week after the orignal post. Did anyone actually successfully download this?

GTA2 can be played on the internet but you need close to LAN conditions for it to run at a playable speed. I used to play it all the time with a broadband friend that lives in the same country as me. It is too slow against people in far away countries even if both players have broadband.

There was also no game finder built in so you had to manually get your opponents IP address and paste it in.

I doubt much has changed in this free version, they probably just recompiled with a newer directx. The download hasn't been working for a few days, the servers appear to be down.

well ditch the SP and drop teh anchor if this GTA2 supports multiplayer over the internet for noobs. Yah gotta subscribe to their mailing list so I bet someone somehwere is subsidising the downloads.

GTA2 didn't support Internet but I know it supported LAN games, which I played hundreds of with 6 other people, just screwing off in my highschool programming class. Either that, or it was a different version that supported it, released at a later time. Either way, this game was made for multiplayer, screw the SP.

nobody's posted a .torrent for this yet? Nothing on Filerush yet.....

The page specifically says it's not to be mirrored. Damn shame too, since I tried to D/L it all day, and had NO luck...

no thanks

It asks your age. If you put it as below 18, i'm sure it denies you. Makes sense to me, judging how much flack they get.

Oh. If the 'stock' version of GTA2 didn't support multiplayer then I guess I'm thinking of GTA1.

I didn't think the original supported multiplay
If you mean the original GTA (as in the first one) then it did, and it was fun :). Nothing like some guy standing in the road with the rocket launcher then you swing in with a bus (which was actually the fastest vehicle in the game) and crushing him before he realises what's going on.
If you mean the original version of GTA2, then I don't think it did. But the machine gun car did indeed rock.

12. GTA2 is Multiplayer? Dec 22, 2004, 15:30 unaloony

Let us know if GTA2 'optimized' supports multiplay. GTA2 = Vice City? I didn't think the original supported multiplay .. I thought there was some patch that offered limited mulitplayer support.

I concur about GTA2 multiplayer.. that was the true magic of GTA2. The single player wasn't anything special. Personally I always enjoyed getting the machine gun car. MACHINE GUN CAR!
