If you want speed then use Opera ( http://www.opera.com ).

The newest beta renders pages at least 2x as fast as IE. The only issues with it are the add banner(if you don't pay), messy skin out-of-the-box, and rather poor java script support.

Other than that it's phenominal, there's so many feature that you'd spend months discovering them all.

you need more speed eh? check this out

The suggestions posted on that board are indeed good. Pipelining makes page loads significantly faster in some cases, and almost always helps a bit. nglayout.initialpaint.delay (which i think you have to add as a new integer value) defaults to 250, and is a forces the browser to wait a quarter second before actually displaying the page it's loading. changing it to 0 eliminates the delay, so browsing will feel faster, even if it's not really loading any faster. the only case in which this will hurt you is when you have a computer so slow that can't interpret and draw the page at the same time, but that'd have to be a pretty slow computer.

I also recommend using a third party build specifically designed for your system. Moox, http://www.moox.ws , always makes pretty good builds, as do others. The speed difference between the official builds and Moox's M3 (basically SSE2 level processor) builds is very tangible.

For some reason Firefox is slightly slower than IE when starting and when loading many web-sites.

It's also good for those using windows 2000 since we can't get SP2. I love Firefox. It's a very clean app and has tabbed browsing of course. Like you said, it is slower to start (MAYBE 1 second longer on my comp), but that's because it's not integrated so that's not really it's fault. There is only one page I visit that Firefox has issues with. It's my web-based email. Firefox keeps prompting me over and over for user/pass in a seperate pop-up box. There's probably a way to disable that though.

I've been using the Mozilla Suite, but I'm trying out Firefox 1.0. So far I still like the full Mozilla Suite better. I like now I can shift click any link and get the save as box, but for example .wmv or .mpeg files with FF will still go to media player if I shif click it unless I go to the options and disable the plugin to play them.

How about not having to worry about exploits, trojans and buffer overflows hacks while surfing the 'net? SUre, Firefox may be susceptible to attacks as well, but it is no where near as bad as Internet Exploder.

good point, I forgot about that.

Maybe I'm missing something but I really don't see such big advantage to using FF over IE

Another benefit - tons and tons of extensions. My top pick is the adblocker - blocks 99% of the ads out there.

I still find myself using IE more. For some reason Firefox is slightly slower than IE when starting and when loading many web-sites. FF also has this annoying thing about their bookmark function: it'll let you sort by any parameter except for folder/direct link which is what IE defaults to.

Maybe I'm missing something but I really don't see such big advantage to using FF over IE , especially since IE implemented a pop-up blocker last update.
