Half-Life 2 Deathmatch

A post on the HL2world Forums outlines the fairly simple method for getting a Half-Life 2 deathmatch server (as opposed to Counter-Strike Source) running (thanks sauron). This is unsupported and certain aspects of this are a bit wonky, for instance, there doesn't seem to be a Gordon Freeman model for this purpose. Here is the sequence of console commands they've worked out:

    net_start
    sv_lan 0
    deathmatch 1
    maxplayers (whatever you want)
    map (mapname)
    restart

It will add you to the master server and it works.

Yes realism is important, but does that mean I only play videogames that only take place within the boundaries/limits of the "real world"? How about movies? Or books? Hell no.

I never said that you pretentious Goatsee buttplug. I said that I want the game to have the feel of being real so that it suspends disbelief, so that I'm immersed in the idea of it. Shooting sawblades at zombie-like automatons is fun for five minutes, but making a game out of it would just show how retarded the developers were that made it. Case in point, PainKiller; interesting game, you have a gun that shoots wooden stakes, physics are awesome, you have a gun that shoots wooden stakes, graphics are at a high level, you have a gun that shoots wooden stakes...

It all comes down to you are shooting a gun that shoots wooden stakes. It's fun for a few minutes, then it becomes stupid and repetitive. Machine guns and realistic guns, even ray guns like the original HL guns that shot lasers and plasma, were fun and don't get boring after 5 minutes because you can give them a degree of believability. Sawblades = bad idea that will get stale in justa few minutes.
