i'm wondering how close i was to reaching Xen... i was at a point where i had powered up a nuclear reactor, then i swam to a new location where i had to teleport myself from room to room and then i was supposed to teleport my way up some spinning column with platforms on it. i had to time the jumps/teleports just right or i fell down and had to start over... i got so mad/bored that i just quit there. was i close to the end?? You were very close to the Zen portal (almost done with that level, and a 1-2 room short level from teleporting to Zen).
You didn't really miss anything on the Black Mesa levels and the Zen jumping was a PITA - go through on cheats if you want, but it's not worth it IMO.

anybody feel up to filling me in on the story to HL1? i never got past the stupid jumping puzzle teleporter thingy... all i know is that you open the portal to Xen (or wherever), fight your way out of black mesa, kill tons of marines and aliens, start a nuclear reactor, launch a rocket, and keep trying to get somewhere(???) while the G-Man lurks around...
anyone care to tell me how it ended up and what (if any) revelations were given??? I don't think the rocket was ever explained. In Zen you kill lots of aliens with a PITA "baby" boss creature (I used cheats to get through Zen, got tired of the jumping puzzles). The end of the game has a cutscene of you having a discussion with the G-Man on a ship (hurtling through space?) where he basically says "work for us or you are screwed". That's about it. I don't think any other real "revelations" take place. Someone jump in here if I'm forgetting to mention something. I really enjoyed HL until the Zen part, where it lost my interest but I finished just to finish.

Okies, I'm stuck:(
For the many who've passed this area, please take pity on moi;P On the chance this is going to spoil someones day, I'll go with hidden:
When you get to that area in Ravenholme and the little dude with the shotgun blows a couple away from his balcony? Just past there you have that electrified fence which I know I'm meant to get past but after 2 hours of trying, I'm lost. Help would be loved:) lol

The Rev Dr John Polkinghorne, a fellow of the Royal Society and a Canon Theologian at Liverpool Cathedral, said: "The idea of a god gene goes against all my personal theological convictions. You can't cut faith down to the lowest common denominator of genetic survival. It shows the poverty of reductionist thinking."
The Rev Dr Walter Houston, the chaplain of Mansfield College, Oxford, and a fellow in theology, said: "Religious belief is not just related to a person's constitution; it's related to society, tradition, character - everything's involved. Having a gene that could do all that seems pretty unlikely to me." They sound like a couple of kids refusing to believe it when they're told Santa Cause doesn't exist.

If it had a level or two of "stealth", I would have called it the best FPS to date. Unless the last few levels have stealth?! I know I'm probably in the minority here but I absolutely hate forced stealth in fps games. I don't mind having it as an option (that I rarely take). Having to use knives or fists to dispatch the enemy is one thing but I really don't like levels where the mission is automatically over if you don't time your mad dash between camera or spotlight sweeps. To me it's just another form of a jumping puzzle that lasts the whole mission.

The vehicles would be better with a gamepad. I think that's why halo's driving works so well on xbox, the gamepad makes it more intuitive.
But yes half-life 2 is great, the physics and interactivity alone beggar comparison. Kudos Valve.

wtg Gabe and Valve!! you have redeemed yourselves after the last 13 months of doubt and confusion... here's a great big BOOOYAHHHH!! for y'all. Yes they did, big time.
I was not expecting much, hoping for something good. But I can not say how great I love it. Plus the grav gun rocks. It simply is an amazing game, I am about 8/10th the way through and still loving every minute of it (I could of used shorter buggy and boat rides, I know everyone loves FPS with vehicles, but I just find it annoying after a little bit of it).
If it had a level or two of "stealth", I would have called it the best FPS to date. Unless the last few levels have stealth?!
Man, with only a little over a year of delays and this game is THIS good, can you imagine how good Duke Nukem Forever is going to be?! hehehe *hopes*

tron, I know you were kidding and everything yes, yes i was.... or.... was i?
even though you had no way to know that, it still really hurt i suggest you go to a support group where you and your fellow dummy-heads can find solace in your shared stupidness. you might want to bring cupcakes, and some Coke to dunk them in. and hey, you may be stupid, and you may be a dummy-head, but at least you're big - so you got that goin' for ya.
Not to mention, HL2 freakin' RAWKS man! I mean it totally freakin' RAWKS yes, indeed it does! (sooooo much better than it's somewhat overrated predecessor). the intro is the coolest i have seen in a long time. i guess you don't need cinematics or cut-scenes to stay cutting-edge. i got a few hours in today, and reached a point where i'm very lost in the recesses of some building and i don't know how to get out... yet.
i hope that you, and everyone else, is having a blast playing this game... we don't see this kind of quality very often, so lets appreciate it while it's here, and still brand new!!!

Old school Dungeons and Dragons gamers should be very pleased with this game (as I am one of them I feel safe in making this statement).
In the end I can give this games one of the highest praises I can think of: Ever time its time to turn it off I find myself always saying… I’ll stop after one more quest, which always winds up turning into 5, 6, 7… more quests. Oh man, this game is gonna' be wicked good.

What? A manual? Real men don't read manuals! uh, WarPig... you ever look at my nick? i'm not a "real man", i was programmed by Flynn to fight the CPU!
"Yeah hello Mr. Gabe? I need a manual. I started the game and my guy doesn't move or look around or anything. What do I do? I'd start pressing keys or moving the mouse but without a manual I just don't know." okay, that was at my expense, but still pretty damn funny!
"but gabe, i'm too busy stuffing doritos into my face to work a keyboard *and* a mouse!"
the real reason i want a manual is that i like to see the design they put into it... like i loved getting the older Blizzard manuals for the artwork (samwise is awesome!) and backstory and such. plus i like to see who the voice actors are... like i'm playing KotR (finally) and i thought i recognized Ethan Phillips, and was able to grab the manual and confirm my suspicions. it's also fun to check out the level designers and see if any of the guys who used to make old user-created Q and Q2 maps are working in the industry...
so there... you big stupid dummy-head!!! |

I don't know how you sports fans on the east coast do it, it would drive me crazy. I'm in the Atlantic Time Zone; MNF games start at 10, run until ~2am... I get up at 6. Even more brutal if you're out at the local liquor emporium until half time... (and then leave a blowout to come home to a 14-14 tied game - last week)...

OK, so now I'm thinking of purchasing HL2 through the steam option I see that the 'silver' package contains Valve's back catalog. Does that include Condition Zero then?
Yep! The "back catalog" is:
