if you are upgrading again, let me know ray!

Curse you! You copied/pasted my secret text!

Unfortunately, I think I may have to do something stupid/insane.

Planning on upgrading come late January, I really want to have PCI-E for the coming year, yet I obviously have an AGP card right now.

On top of that, I would prefer AMD over Intel and Intel seems to be the one favoring PCI-E.

Stay with AGP? Try some kind of performance-hitting connector? Find some whacked out MB that has both slots? Purchase a whole new card come January?

As I said, either something stupid or something insane.

To make matters worse, the next batch of cards will only be the "Ultra" or 512MB variants, not the next series in chips.
Do not even get me started on how much this will cost
Going to be replacing the case, MB, RAM, CPU, PSU, and (likely) GPU,
Ray

6800 > x800

ATI > All other current nViDiA cards
Still, I may have gone ATI if the company bothered to ship cards.
Hoping they both push out new cards come January,
Ray

swg free and loving it

Yeh you can. One of the bugs fixed in the 4.10 is the NFS:U2 bug some people (myself included) got/get where you get a black screen with just headlights/brakelights. Anyhow the 4.10 recommend SP2 but it installs just fine on SP1. I cant imagine a company EVER making driver not work with a version of Windows for no real reason.

Anyone know if you can even install the 4.11/12-beta's on just SP1 (or even plain vanilla xp)?

But does it make up for how much slower SP2 makes a computer?

SP2 makes computers slower, that's news to me. I've been running SP2 since the day it was released for offline install (weeks before it was available on WU), no problems here.

True Combat rocks, plays like a modern day CoD, can't go wrong there. Running a TC server (et.pocketmatrix.com:27962 or 216.40.216.133:27962 if that doesnt work) but it's always empty :\

The Doom3 hotfix was released days after the game was out with some preliminary speedups. I haven't had the dots problem, so I don't know.

sponge: Yeah, but rarely. I reinstalled it to check out True Combat mod.

Hey, what is this DOOM 3 hot fix about? Is it for the dots problem?

29. Memory Fix? Nov 12, 2004, 18:02 MrAsh

One of the fixes for the new drivers mentions a fairly substantial increase in performance for 256+ RAM cards on memory intensive games. Has anyone actually tried this? I have a 9800XT and I'm curious if it would help toward EQ, WoW, things of that nature.

Overon: Yeah, I have Enemy Territory that locks up my computer hard with Punkbuster and Catalyst driver v4.10. I had to go back to v4.9!

You play ET too? Right now I'm using the Doom3 Hotfix drivers. If you can, try and hop on 67.18.69.147:27960 , you'll usually see me there as {DeV

Good to se i'm not the only one. I had a 9700pro & switched to a x800xt a few months ago never had a single issue with the 9700pro. It would be interesting to know what mainboard people with problems are using?!!??! Then again it might be cause i use rivatuner & winguide tweak manager to set up my machine (doubt it).

I never even had the punkbuster problem in BF1942 or DCX.

25. Why ? Nov 12, 2004, 17:21 Ouch

I'm wondering what in the world ATI is doing that would cause the Punkbuster crash in the first place.
