Ships Ahoy - Children of the Nile

The Game That's Fit for a Pharaoh! Myelin Media and Tilted Mill Announce 'Immortal Cities Children of the Nile' Hits Retailers Nationwide (thanks Frans) is the press release announcing the U.S. availability of Tilted Mill Entertainment's city building game:
"Chris Beatrice and his team have genuinely evolved the city building category in a way that we believe will expand the market beyond some of the previous successes this team has been part of" says Gene Mauro, CEO of Myelin. "They did this ahead of schedule and on budget, something to be extremely proud of with such an ambitious project."

"Immortal Cities is the city-building game that I always wanted to make," said Chris Beatrice, president of Tilted Mill Entertainment. "We were able to incorporate many innovative elements that have never been done before. The ability to roam a living and breathing virtual city and interact on a personal and emotional level with your citizens is both unique and captivating, and we feel players will enjoy this fresh new experience from a popular genre that has not evolved as quickly as other genres have."

so do guys find the game to be playable and easy to understand? i am really looking forward to it, though the gamespy review raised some worrying points. they claim it lacks focus and that it is difficult to know what your goals are and where to focus your attention. they also said the interface is inadequate and difficult to navigate. they had a lot of good to say about it as well, but seemed to think it had too many flaws to be truly enjoyable... what is your take on this?

As far as not knowing what to do... The manual kinda goes over this. Plus there's several longish tutorials so i didn't get that impression. With that said I know a decent amount about egyptology so I kind of understand what the developers are going for.

I still haven't gotten to play it a whole lot, just made it through most of the tutorials but it seems pretty fun. The interface really didn't seem that bad to me.

I posted on these boards a few days back about how I hated the name. I picked it up anyway over the weekend. Honestly, the interface isn't that bad. I can easily get to everything I need, albeit I haven't gotten very far yet.

The only problem i have with the interface is that the graphics aren't very clean and sharp. It's more of a stylistic issue. I just prefer bland utilitarian interfaces that are easy to navigate.

I also want to mention that this game supports non-standard resolutions. The developers deserve a lot of credit for this capability as I can play the game at my laptop's native resoltion (1680x1050).

So far it's pretty fun. I have a feeling it's gonna get really good when my city gets a lot larger.

Even if that is true, it surely has the worst name of any city builder ever.

Ummm....yeah. I saw it posted here last week, and just looking at the title, assumed it was an adventure game (like Siberia)...

aye this was on my Must Buy list until i started reading some credible reviews which all use the words "annoying interface" or "unfinished interface". I'm gonna wait for a playable demo or the first patch.
