Half-Life 2 Steam Backups

Posts to the Steam Users Forums by Valve's Doug Lombardi and Taylor Sherman (thanks HomeLAN Fed and HLFallout.net) address concerns about reinstallation of copies of Half-Life 2 purchased online via Steam, describing how it will be possible to back up your original installation files on CD or DVD. In other Steam related news, this post (thanks Frans) describes another new update, among other things, adding "cheat protection to flashlight option."

Now I just need to find out how to use my ATI voucher to do so. That is an option, right?

Yup, it's an option. You get the bronze package (which is the equivolent of retail I believe) or you can upgrade to the silver or gold by paying the difference. I think you log on to steam and choose the 'register products I already own' option.

And yes, this is definately good news. Backup = smart.
