Gold - Ultima Online: Samurai Empire

UO: Samurai Empire Gold announces the completion of the Japanese-themed expansion for the MMORPG, saying the Ultima Online add-on is due in stores on November 2:

“We are right on track to deliver this exciting new experience to our fans next month,” said Anthony Castoro, producer of Ultima Online at EA. “We’re thrilled because we’re giving players everything they ask from a new expansion, new professions, lands, skills and housing options. Beyond that, we’ve also added a unique locale and culture to Ultima Online, the exotic Tokuno Islands, a land of Samurai and Ninja.”

6 accounts active? I like the current team working on UO. The super items suck for pvp, but they are fun for fighting monsters. They should consider making pvp and pve items. Pvp items would have no bonuses, take less ingots to make, have low durability, could be stolen, and could only hurt other players. Pve items would be the opposite, a Diablo players dream.
Also. They need to ditch the 3d engine. The landscape isn't even 3D. Concentrate on the 2D graphics OR spend some REAL effort on making the game looks as nice as Farcry
If you like "old" UO then you should try http://www.uogateway.com/

UO fucking rocks..

Problem is.. there are people like me that had acounts from college or highschool days and just have invested so much time invested in the game, that nothing is worth losing your UO acount over.. Hell, I have like 6 acounts still active.. though I haven't played UO in like 6 months.

EA are just a bunch of money hungry fucks. they have ruined this game with tons of stupid shit.. I can't wait to see what they fucked up in this new Add on.

There were other graphical muds out before Meridian 59 also. UO was the first MMORPG. None of the ones before it could be considered "massive".

Believe it or not, a lot of people still subscribe to UO.
I have made the occasional visit back to Brittania (during a boring month here or there).
I'm sure the numbers have lessened over the course of these years, but assuredly, UO is still strong.
I'm figuring that WOW will be stealing a large number of players as most people who stick with UO are doing so for the play system which includes a myriad of trade skills and lacks the experience point based level system prominent in so many other MMORPGs.

Ultima Online was also the original MMO, thus many stick with it for nostalgia's sake.

Though UO these days is a far cry from the original Ultima of old, many still play it because it resembles the originals.

How many people still play/subscribe to UO?

The games so old, I would have assumed most people have migrated to something else by now..
