One can only hope that they fired the original level designer and found someone who can design a decent building/spacecraft interior this time around. If you have to paint a fucking arrow on the floor to tell players the way to go, then you have a problem, especially for such a linear game like the first Halo was. The only 'fun' parts were when you got to drive the Warthog.

You probably mean a legal PC-port for Halo 2.

I mean a port, period. If such a feat you describe (a hacker porting Halo 2 on his own) was possible, we wouldn't have waited as long for the original Halo--and we sure as hell would be able to bump the mouse sensitivity in that game up past 10.

It's ubisoft you have to blame for their betrayal. They let their greed get in the way of a possibly more advanced, more graphicly nice and more open ended game. Instead they made this crampy little been-here done-this game that they ported to PC and expected the PC crowd to think it rocked when while on the xbox it was good because it was one of the first good shooters, on the PC it had been way outdone years before by the likes of Half-Life or Quake 2.

As to HL2, if it isn't on the PC I don't care about it. I'll watch my nephew play it on his xbox.. no way I'm gonna pick up a crapsole to play any game.

I'm buying an Xbox just to play this. The first one (on Xbox) was just "meh", already seeing the first video of it at Macworld in 99'. The potential the original PC/Mac Halo had at the time was immense, but it got "like totally nerfed d00d" for the Xbox. Halo 2 is looking to include many of the elements they had to drop for Halo, when those bastards at MS decided to take one of the greatest Mac and PC devs and use them to showcase a friggin console. ARGGGHH !

Pissed that we'll never see another great Myth or Marathon.

So did they ever add co-op over xbox live? Either way, I can't wait to pick this one up.

I know it was a kind of toungue in cheek question, but you could play co-op since day 1 using the gamespy connector.

You probably mean a legal PC-port for Halo 2. I am sure some enterprising hacker, given the proper motivation (challenging his l33t skills or a copy of the Paris Hilton video) will port the game for PC consumption. You may need a beast of a system to play it, but optimization is another subject for debate - as was the case in the original.

So you mean just an Xbox emulator for the PC to play Halo 2. By the time that eventually gets done, we'll all have machines that are considered a beast of a system by today's standard. ie. Don't hold your breath for that emulator.

If I'm wrong and there really are usable Xbox emulators out there, feel free to correct me.

For those who follow Frankie's weekly updates there's a 15 minute flick of their "Gold" party. Frankie gives a tour of their (mostly empty) studios at MS (mad clutter). Funny stuff.

IIRC, there won't be a PC port of Halo 2. Ever

I found the first Halo fun to play and quite enjoyable on the PC, but nothing earth shattering or unique - especially the level design.

Looking forward to Half Life 2.

The idea of playing Halo 2 and Half-life 2 has me doing a kind of pee-pee dance. I just can't believe they're both right around the corner.

Is HL2 really going to be out soon? They don't seem too sure yet.

How can the Xbox announce a limited edition of Halo 2? The Xbox is just a console. Of course, if it could make its own announcements, then it's got yet another feature over Gamecube and PS2. But isn't it odd how the console generates its own news? Of course, a more viable alternative is that Microsoft put out the announcement, and not the Xbox. You never see a headline that says "PlayStation 2 today announced the release date for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," or "GameCube announces Metroid Prime 2." Dumb, dumb reporters.

Some things in this thread I'd like to reply to:

-Bungie has already confirmed that they've changed their level design philosophy, and the reptitive levels are gone.
-Co-op on XBL is a rumor. Bungie hasn't said anything about it.
-You guys who were neutral on Halo should give Halo 2 a try. It's a more expansive game, and some of the common "wtf is this?" features are gone (like the repetitive corridors.)
-IIRC, there won't be a PC port of Halo 2. Ever.

My only problems with Halo were "The Library" being nothing but a shooting gallery (and about as un-library as it gets), "Assault on the Control Room" getting mind-numbingly dull in the middle, and Bungie recycling some of the more questionable level design at the end in order to complete on time for the Xbox launch. But the game was still one of the best I've played.

Bungie has no excuses this time for skimping on Halo 2. They know exactly what was good and not so good about the first (from excellent community management), they've had plenty of time and money and they're now experienced with the Xbox hardware.

I seem to remember reading a quote from Jason Jones(?) saying that Halo 2 would be the game they wanted Halo to be. I can't wait.

I'm with the "so completely underwhelmed by Halo 1" crowd, but I'm curious about this one. Is it going to be four years til the PC version comes out too, if at all?

And I'm not talking about the old war ones either.

Finally some real FPS games to play set in the future.
