T2 classic is awesome and still holds its own even with the glitz in T.V.

Well if anything I'd say Tribes : Vengeance feels and looks more like U2:XMP. Except XMP is actually better. Vehicles are still toy cars though. T:V has simplicity written all over it. Irrational's "less is more" philosophy of thinking is completely retarded, considering they made System Shock 2 such an amazing game. Sorry but leave that kind shallow minimalist bullshit for some other generic/arcadish franchise, such as UT or Battlefield.

Still playing Tribes II classic.

Sorry...but it definitely feels and looks like UT on Jetpacks to me. Been there done that.

LOL If we where to ask you to articulate how & why TV feels like UT you would have nothing to say! Are the weapons anything like the UT weapons? Are the vehicules anything like the UT ones? No so how is gameplay similar to UT? Can you deploy objetc in UT? Can you change armor types in UT?

In every TV thread some kid says it but up to now none can explain their comment.

They still haven't fixed the fact that when you kill someone in vehicle you don't receive any points for it, but instead i shows that whoever died in the vehicle shot themselves and killed themselves....come on how hard is to fix that and actually award someone who destroyed vehicle killing everyone inside of it. kthx.

What irritates me about the de-evolving of Tribes. Is the panderage to the cap whore. Note: there's only one flag to cap so everyone can't have they're "Look at me...Look at me" moment.

T:V is a defender's nightmare, flags sitting out there like a hooker selling her wares, cap whores skiing in and snagging the flag before turrets even wake up. It's quite draining. Defenders are effectively relegated to chasing the carrier, which is almost pointless if they have a good route, this is due to the tiny maps.

Agreed. And keep in mind that people dont have the best skiing routes for capping yet, so it will be even worse on those maps in the future.
Still, I like LD the most. I found that LO got extremely boring because of this fast paced crap. You grab the flag and in 5 to 20 seconds (smallest to biggest map) you got it captured. Yay, challenging.

Right now I love sniping because its really hard to hit moving targets. I love sniping people who are barely visible and think they are invulerable because they jump around a bit. Even defense sniping is quite nice to do. Though, if you dont hit him, you will be there without energy and no chance of chasing him fast enough. The best thing is popping the enemy flag capturer right before he caps the flag and then quickly returning the flag. had my best laughs out of that, especially when hes being arrogant. Its funny to see how people suddenly shut up completely after spamming "Woohoo", "Nyah Nyah", "You Idiot" etc. all the time.

I liked desert of death. Its was pretty big and skiing was fun there. I remember getting lost a few times in my newbie days.

On top of that, for some foolish reason, the devs decide to nerf the jets EVEN more.

Uhhh, I thought that the lights jets were pretty weak already... I have to try that out... sounds horrible...
On the other hand, especially on smaller maps a less strong jetpack is good since cappers cant just jet up, press their energypack rockets and when they touch the ground again, they land on their own flag stand. Still, they already nerfed the light extremely, and light was always my favorite because of its agility and speed. I too think they should nerf the mediums and heavies instead of lights... but as they wrote, they want to make the mediums more user friendly... they are harder to kill now as a light, but they are far too fast. When I started playing T:V and didnt notice that I was medium instead of light when I respawned, I didnt even notice that the medium was slower or less agile at all.

Did they decrease the falling damage?

TV demo is pretty stable and smooth. Netcode is pretty good as is expected from a game like Tribes and yes Im another twitcher you probaly hate, BUT I will agree that the nature of jetting, skiing in TV actually makes the excitment of defensive chases a lost art.On top of that, for some foolish reason, the devs decide to nerf the jets EVEN more.

Understandably they nerf them for Heavys (the mortar spamming and Heavy capping in TV was a bit ridiculous), but they also nerfed the jets for the lights with an energy pack in the current demo. This was probaly done to make it harder for guys to cap and force skiing. Problem is that it unbalances the game even more. Twitchers with ping connection below 60 can cap out all day long and defensive chasing is almost impossible.

I'm sure mods will improve on these problems, but I really think thye should rething the e-pack issue before releasing it to retail. the jetting in the beta was fine and just needed a slight tad more horizontal jetting and boost. The skiing is perfect (boy does Irrational love skiing, but its obvious they weren't big time Tribes players before developing the game)

I thought this was pretty fun, mostly because I haven't played a Tribes game in a good long time.

Negatives: Mines are too large. No targeting laser? The grapple needs ammo? The speed and shield packs are useless, I never once touched them. Same for the buckler. You don't feel quite as threatening in a heavy, though I did find myself going with medium armor a lot. At least the heavy wasn't as unwieldy and I thought it would be. Maps need to be a bit bigger. Where are the dropships, floating bases, and towers you can capture/hold?

Positives: I wanted to quite playing earlier, but I just had to play the next map... and the next... and I still love the freedom of jetting. UT feels slow in comparison. The explosions and bodies cartwheeling around is pretty cool too.

Verdict: I think I'll hold off for a bit. I'll let the price come down, let the inevitable patches come out, and see what the mod scene has in store. The MP demo is a hell of a lot better than the SP demo.

Yeah this definately feels "dumbed down". I was looking at the terminals in my base and they were on fire. It was like retarded cartoon fire.

It's not like the graphics in T1 and T2 were very good (well T2 was pretty damn good at the time if you had a top end video card), but T:V just seems cartoony. Some people had been saying this game seems like UT2004 with jetpacks. It doesn't really play like that, but it sure as hell looks like it. I really, really hate the Unreal engine. Even if I didn't know in advance what engine T:V was using, I would know the moment I loaded it up the first time. All unreal games look similar, and that's not a good thing.

The gameplay is just ok. It's all dumbed down too. Skiing was a skill you had to learn in the older games. I hate it when game developers pander to casual players like this.

I know the twitchers will come flapping, but I have three words for them; "Desert of Death".

Hmm, DoD wasn't popular because it is a turtle map. If you had 4 LD, your flag was pretty much set to stay put. D could just disc spam into the small opening. Same thing applies for Quagmire in T2. Yes, it is much harder to D in T:V, but citing DoD as an example of a fair and balanced map is stretching it.

Oh, and I've played LD in all my years of T1 and T2, so I'm not one of the "twitchers" that you describe.

Thing I loved about T1 was protecting the base, turning up the sound listening for noobs who neglect to unselected their spinfusor. (Sound hints yet another thing devs have seem to have forgotten, guess they cut too much into twichies' fps)

Um, how does listening for spinfusors help you play D in T1? It's not like you detect cappers or HO by their spinfusor sound =/

I know the twitchers will come flapping, but I have three words for them; "Desert of Death". It always amazed me how unpopular that map was, I suspect it was due to the fact that it allowed the defenders to twitch too. Nothing a twitcher hates more then balance.

Oh well, I guess I'll wait for it to hit the bargain bin, 11 maps is an insult, since the devs were implying on the VUGame's T:V board about the release having a lot more maps, 7 more, whoa guys pace yourselves now. Also, since I wasted money buying SW:Battlefront(buggy, weak, POS, wanna be 1942) so I'll be a little less impulsive this time around.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Tribes 2.

And I retract my earlier bashing of this. I think it will grow on me once there are some bigger maps showing up.

I just remember the huge longrange battles in flying transports on Tribes 1, the reality of -having- to pay attention to defend your base.

This is just a bunch of noise and shooting. Maybe I'm just old.

Edit - HAH that's what's missing.. the command console. that arm thing you used to use so you could see everything.. maybe someone will patch one in.

I kept hitting M for map.

Half-Life didnt have many MP maps at all out of the box.

True but Half Life wasn't as online-centric as Tribes is. After playing the demo for a few hours, it's got its positives and negatives. On the positive side, I really like the graphics, PS 2.0 went a long way and this is definately the best looking UT-engine based game I've seen so far. The artwork style is easily forgivable after seeing the game in it's full glory at Ultra detail. Also, it does feel like Tribes as well just running around in the game world.

On the negative side, basically all of my complaints are on the simplification or complete lack of features that were present in the past games. You usually expect a sequel to offer more variety in weapons/items that add to the gameplay and have their own uses. Limited map boundary? Three weapons max for each class? Less packs? I thought, at one point, being a HEAVY meant being fucking armed to the teeth, now heavies are just "meh". No functioning console command station? The weapons seem to lack any solid feedback, everything feels light and fluttery, if you know what I mean. (probably something to do with the UT engine)

Basically just a ton of little things that, on their own are not much of a problem but added all up, irk me as a longtime Earthsiege/Starsiege fan. The demo is still fun as hell, but more in the "UT2k4 is fun" kinda way than the "Christ! This game is mindblowing" way. I was really hoping for something that takes Tribes to the next level. Just MHO.

Edit: That Starsiege mod looks very cool, hell I just might buy T:V for that if it's any good.

Tribes 1 was perfect. Tribes 2 was dumbed down, and this is even more dumbed down. Tribes 4 will be 3d blocks jumping around without weapons

Once again, yes Tribes 2 sucked out of the box, BUT after the latest patches and mods like classic T2 it was a kick ass game that easily rivaled Tribes 1.

If their is a Tribes 4 and its built on the unreal engine (unreal engine 3) Oh my god will it look awesome. better than Half-Life 2 or Doom 3 Whats more important though is the netcode and gameplay.

I downloaded this demo, hoping I would love it as I did T1. And the fact is.. I don't. It has been really dumbed down. The graphics aren't that great, look VERY cartoonish (whereas the graphics in UT04 look great, I don't understand the difference as they're the same engine). The jet pack trails look HORRIBLE. The maps are very small, and not the vast expanses like we saw in the first two games. *sigh* I'm still gonna get it though, hopefully 2845 will rock...

I like Emerald. It's quick, has no air vehicles and reminds me most of T1. Cavern, on the other hand, is grapplewh0re heaven, which I don't like (since I play LD). Isle is okay, Winterlake sucks

Actually when i first played I too liked Emerald the best then Cavern then Isle then Winterlake.

After playing and getting use to TV "physics" and skiing I now like Winterlake the most, a toss up between Emerald and Isle and cavern the least. If you've got the skiing down, Winterlake has some fast and furious ski routes!

Exciting new maps there will be. Also, I'm betting you'll see some pretty kick ass new models NOT skins but models.

Hey whats most important is the gameplay and the netcode. For a tribes game this netcode is pretty good and the game plays smooth. Sure Farcry looks awesome, but have you tried the mulitplay...it sucks.

Tribes is mulitplay and the mod community for Tribes is awesome fear not. By the way 11 MP maps is fine for the initial release. If I remember correctly, Half-Life didnt have many MP maps at all out of the box.
