This is going to infuriate some people but I really like having steam, I had a hard disk die on me and instead of mountaineering through my piles of old cds, finding that the disk itself was dead and having to download an iso for my valid cd key like last time I just logged in and let it download over night.

Isn't it tempting fate slightly to talk about the coffee table book - "The Making Of Half-Life 2" before the goddamn game is even finished ... ARGH
I think it's ridiculous that they're talking about making a tome the size of a phone book from a company that has released exactly one game in its entire existence.

I can't wait for both the CoD expansion and HL2. So much gaming, so little time.
I love behind the scenes stuff as well. As an amateur game programmer (i.e. fiddles in his spare time) I'd also be interested in a technical book with the same title. Same goes for Doom3. I'm facinated by state of the art game programming.
p.s. Hmm, should I use Steam with my 33.6?

Although, assuming there will be the usual large delay factor in the game being released here, compared to the US... I'm thinking I may buy it via steam, then burn to disc if that is possible, then format to erase all traces of steam and then play the game.... I wish valve would start a 'ways to avoid steam but still have hl2' section on their faq...
Edit: Just realised I missed a golden opportunity to turn this into a Half Life 2 Vs. DooM3 war... sort of... Congrats to Activision for making DooM3 available here the same day as the US... except for Microsoft when releasing new operating systems, I think that may have been a first! Now, if someone could please ask someone at Activision to remake River Raid as an XBox title, please. Okay, my work here is done/.

I'm actually really interested in getting this book, I love behind the scenes stuff. Yeah, me too. Actually I can't wait to get this book. It sounds like it's going to be a great read. I bet it's going to be EXPENSIVE though. I'm really interested in the whole HL1 deal, where they completely scrapped it and started over fomr scratch. It'll be interesting to read what the original version was like and what they felt just didn't work.
(I hope I'm not barging in everybody else's obligatory bash Valve, Gabe is a fat pig fest)

I really don't know if I could believe a "GOLD" announcement at this point. Until I am playing the game, I won't be expecting anything. Didn't realize this until you said it, but I totally agree.

they need an entire book to explain how screwed up the last year of development was and how they lied to their customer base about how complete the game was *last* september? don't we already know all this? My HL2 monies will be spent on CoD:UO and Dawn of War. They better get some damn good (non-fanboi) reviews in order to earn my $$$. btw, I do really hope it's good but have lost all faith in *everything* that valve says. I really don't know if I could believe a "GOLD" announcement at this point. Until I am playing the game, I won't be expecting anything.
EDIT: sry about the above rant, I just felt kind of pissed that someone was making (even more) money off the supposed blunder that took place last september. This comment was edited on Sep 13, 12:43. |

Wow, I really think their PR guys are being paid by a rival company. They just can't seem to get the big picture. How many times do we have to see the same movies, and hear headlines about something other than the game being finished.
This book would be interesting to read if it weren't "official". Sounds like a "this is what happened" according to valve book.

More importantly, does the book contain a list of all Gabe's passwords and codes, license number and social security?
If they were smart, they'd include that to avoid someone having to hack them next time....

I'm actually really interested in getting this book, I love behind the scenes stuff. Of course, this interview doesn't have any details about cost or release date, and I can't find anything on the Prima site either. Nice work guys.

Well, with the pre-loads and now discussions of a "making of" book, all indications are that the game will be going gold soon - hopefully by the end of this month (famous last words, I know %))
