TRIBES Vengeance Approaches

A post to the Vivendi Universal Games Forums from Irrational Games' Ken Levine (thanks TribalWar and Frans) has word that they are nearly finished with development of the upcoming installment in the TRIBES series. He offers a brief history of Irrational's involvement in the project, and a bit on the community that they have inherited:
Let me just say this: The Tribes community is freaking nuts. I've never seen such a passionate, intense, vocal and dedicated group of fans. It has been an honor and pleasure to come into this fully formed community and try to make something that looks, sounds, plays and _feels_ right to them. It has been challenging, confusing, frustrating, perplexing, and incredibly rewarding. We've done our level best. The game is nearly there. But that's not the end. Because Tribes has, and always will, belong to the community. That's what Tribes: Vengeance is more moddable and flexible than any other Tribes game. We wait to see what you think of what we've done, and perhaps more importantly, how you are going to top us.

I tried the open beta for about ten minutes. All I can do is use the frown face to describe my experience.

It just doesn't feel like Tribes to me. I was hoping it would be awesome, but I guess not.

I wish the Tribes 2 community was bigger because that's still a great game. If friggin' Sierra didn't screw up the release and alienate so many players by rushing it, it probably wouldn't have become so underrated.
